Flan's rant

My opinion on this is as follows:

As one probably seen as one of the robots, the problem was the over-inflation of size of groups. As the numbers pushed into probably the hundred+ range, there was no way to know everyone by name: I was probably friends with, at most, 10% of the people in the large group. Listening to friends' problems is one thing, but having to tolerate complete strangers do the same is much more difficult. That's why I've always supported the idea of smaller, more personal groups: the drama is indeed caused by people expressing their flaws and having it being picked up by the robots. By segregating, the robots become people again and no longer have to fail to endure the other people.

This also would improve communication, as it's much easier for a dozen people to be all updated as to each other's issues than it is for a hundred people to do the same.

I think it's an inevitable consequence of community growth. At some point, it reaches some critical density and everything collapses. The only way to have a community of friendly people who are all on good terms with each other and tolerate and love each other is to limit the size of the community. As a fairly long-standing member, I can attest to the fact that the occurrences of drama, or fights, or whatnot increased as time passed. In this community's younger days, with fewer members, it was much more easy-going, fights were much few and far between, it was a much more pleasant place. As we approached the breaking point, as the name implies, things broke. Little groups splintered off.

It's true that it's a shame about us not being able to create; to become part of a larger community, but take a look at the root of the word. Community. When you get that many people, all attracted because of one thing, they have that in common, but collectively, the amount of things in common decrease. All of us were attracted to two things: Touhou and Minecraft. But aside from that, what did we have in common? At first, of course, when it was just a few people, long before most of us, they had such a small tight-knit community and they all had the banding together in common. With a total of under ten people, you learn everyone quickly. A few months pass, and more people enter. Sure, we still have those things, but now there are a dozen other aspects introduced, but still, it's functional. Fast forward to the near past and that's where it became unmanageable. Everyone was so different there was really very little in common and very little time to figure out what was in common with the new faces introduced with every passing day. Faced with that lack of community within the Community, little communities left to return to the feeling of a tight-knit community.

All this talk aside, I remember those times when you let your feelings through in the past, and I'm sorry I couldn't do anything for you as a part of your community. I wish you good times in any of your future endeavors.

On a side note, about Roukuro, that's what I've been saying for so long and why I still consider him one of my closest friends. Did he even mess up? From my viewpoint, maybe he even succeeded beyond expectations. Dissolving was inevitable and he started the trend of branching off. It's like there was a dam that was about to shatter and he was the one who proposed to open a floodgate to let some of the water through. Only people hated him for the idea, they wanted to keep all the water. In the end, the water kept spilling away, and the only things that have ever slowed that down were making reservoirs, making private areas to store that water.
