    Civ V Touhou Highlander game

This is just an excuse for me to post screenshots about a Civ V runthrough where I'm playing as Kaguya civ.

    Spoiler: About Kaguya!

Kaguya is broken if played right. You're only allowed one city naturally unless you annex a city-state through same process of Austria's Diplomatic Marriage and annexing other civ's cities, but to compensate you enjoy 25% less culture requirement for new social policies which is really nice both early and late. But what really shines is that, once per era, she can build any wonder that has not been built in your capital when a wonder is built, either by you or by someone else.

Let's clarify that for a second.

That means you can theoretically have two of the same wonders if you manage to get an early 2nd city. Even if you don't have the luck to do so (I was able to get two of Hubble Telescope and two Statue of Liberty which is amazing thanks to annexing Samarkand through Diplomatic Marriage) you are still able to get a wonder that SOMEONE ELSE HAS ALREADY BUILT IN THEIR CAPITAL.

If that was not strong enough, Kaguya also has a Unique Unit called Basilikoi Toxotai which replaces the Composite Bowman. It has higher strength and ranged strength than Composite Bowman, and also gains 15% combat bonus when fighting in friendly tiles, making it really strong defensively. The 15% bonus is considered perk and stays on even when you upgrade your units.

The Unique Building for Kaguya is Golden Temple Fortress which replaces your Palace (Starter building). It's basically a souped up Palace that grants bonuses to your national wonders (Like, National College, Circus Maximus and etc) and grants them a special specialist slots called Client. The amount of different resource Clients give are upgraded as you get National Wonders, and by the end you get like 2 food 6 science 4 production 3 culture or something for every Clients. And you get like 15 - 20 Clients.

I am going to play for Domination victory (Hence the title: Highlander game) against these 11 other mod Civs.

Spoiler: Note: All mods used in this Civ 5 round is not mine, obviously. If you're interested in any of them, go to the Steam workshop for Civ 5 and look up Touhou stuffs.

Depending on how much time I invest into this round the update schedule will fluctuate greatly.

    Anyhow...

Spoiler: Chapter 1: We start off

      Spoiler:

So we start off at a pretty nice spot: next to a single coast tile (gives us naval availability), on desert tile where we can possibly get Desert Folklore (One of the best pantheon if you're on or near desert tiles), plus two stones where we can benefit from with Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (Gives us +2 gold for every stone or marble, plus 100 gold for every time we use a Great Person). I couldn't ask for anything better.

Normally your city would be called Eientei, but because I have Eirin as enemy who ALSO has Eientei as capitol, I have some shitty hard-to-pronounce city name. Boo.

      City built!

      Spoiler:

After you create your capitol, send your defense unit Warrior to scout out the nearby landscape. Because your Warrior takes up 2 movement when walking through a rough terrain (such as hills, forest, jungle, marsh, and across a river), it is paramount to start making some scouts for easier exploration.

Now you're exploring because of these reasons...

      Spoiler:

It is clear that, in a turn-based strategy game like Civilization 5, scouting and knowing the map is tremendously important. But in Civ 5 particularly, these are the three out of many many reasons why you should focus on exploration for the first few dozens of turns:

      1. Ruins. These artifacts, when stepped on by a unit, will grant a random benefit to your civilization, such as population increase in one of your cities, scientific discovery, boost in culture/faith, revelation of map and/or nearby barbarian encampment, and (most importantly) free unit upgrade.
      2. Natural Wonders. These locations, when discovered, grant permanent happiness bonus. If they're in your territory, they give a specific amount of resources every turn. The one I found for example is Mt. Sinai which gives 8 faith per turn. Too bad it's so far away from my capitol and too bad I can't make any settlers :P
      3. City-states. When discovered, city states give you gold and, if they're religious in traits, faith. If you're the first civilization to discover them, you get twice the amount you would normally get.

      Spoiler:

I'm a huge sucker for science in Civ 5; thus, the Great Library of Alexandria is my go-to wonder for getting that science.

For me to get that, I need to take Pottery -> Writing tech and then begin the gruelling process of waiting 30 turns for the library to construct, hoping and praying that other civs are not rushing it.

      Spoiler:

For social policies, I almost always go for Tradition even though it has been nerfed in the past. It's just better to have a couple of very tall cities than have myriad of single digit population cities. And besides, I can't even make a settler as Kaguya; better make it count and make my capitol tall as heck.

      Spoiler:

      Yeeeeeeeeeees!

Scouts landing on a ruin tile that gives them unit upgrade is the BEST. It keeps the Scouts; ability to ignore terrain penalties while being able to gain ranged attack: an excellent combination of perks that carries onto the later stages of the game.

      However...

      Spoiler:

That's a very nice Archer you have there. Shame if it were to be killed by a 3 Brute flank...

      ;_;
      I die on the inside.

      Spoiler:

Time for a change of pace then.

With a scout->archer gone, I only have one more scout and a warrior, against what could possibly be a horde of Brutes approaching. So I recalled the warrior back to defend the worker that I spent time making after two scouts so he can build farms and make the capitol grow.

      Spoiler:

Afterwards, I create Granary for even more food (FOOD IS VERY IMPORTANT. FOOD = GROWTH = MORE POPULATION = MORE TILES TO WORK ON = MORE STUFF)

      Spoiler:

After Writing is complete, I could go Sailing for being able to grab the crabs as luxury resources for more happiness, but I instead opt for Archery. There are reasons for this:

      - I'll be spending the next 30 or so turns making the Great Library, so I don't have time to create the fishing boats.
      - Even if I did make work boats for the crabs, it would give me, what, 4 happiness? I already get 3 happiness from Kaguya's unique building, so it isn't necessary this early into the game.

      Spoiler:

      Yeeeees feast, my children. FEEEEEAST

      Spoiler:

As we continue exploring, however, we run across...

      Spoiler:

Oh shit it's Mima boys she gave up on Touhou and became an actual legit civ
      We come across Mima.

If by any chance you're interested in learning more about Civ 5 and you like these turn-based strategy games I HIGHLY suggest you check it out. Civ 6 is coming out yes but I feel like it's not going to be as good as Civ 5. Also, if you want me to cover more about a certain aspect of the game feel free to ask on this thread. I am, by no means, an expert, but I can maybe answer a few questions.
