Ok, I just read the slip stream space and the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine pages and have some understatement about it.
What I understand is that The ships create some sort of wormhole or shortcut to reach the faraway goal, but there are many factors taht affect the time it would take, the precision to reach and the actual mass of the ship.
For example, a small ship with X drive core would take 5 days to reach its goal and would be a day or two of distance of the goal after leaving slip space, but a freight ship with the same drive core will take 10-13 days to reach the goal and be 4 days of distance when getting out of the slip space. Even more if both ships go at the same wake, the time is relative, the small vessel crew could actually be some time older than the ones of the larger ship or viceversa.
The slip space is like Yukari´s gaps, but the in-between time while being inside varies because of the mass being loaded, the speed of the ship (because the slip space is the tunnerl, it doesn´t push the actual ship) and the technology of the drive core.
There are indeed some anomalies that can occur while on slip space like with the UNSC Apocalypso, an anomaly while traveling made the ship go back in time to 2004, another example is the fact that the people working on the drive core could just vanish because of the power of said Core´s mini black holes. Heck it can be used a supernova/giant nuclear bomb.
Now to adjust this information with the portal technology.. that is still on work since the creator of said object had an emergency and untested drive through space/time and even reality
