    (Possible) New Hakurei Shrine

Since the current creator of the Hakurei Shrine is no longer present, I've taken the liberty of making a new one. It's still a WIP, however it's mostly done. I've followed several references and this is my outcome.

Here's the current Hakurei Shrine for comparison:

I like the new one quite a bit. I especially like the walls done with the trap doors. I haven't seen that done before.

Methinks the new one looks a tad too bland- I know we shouldn't go too overboard with fanon and stuff, but I like to think that what sets us apart from THC is that we're a bit more lenient with our locations and our building style. I think that sprucing up the shrine a bit with some fiddly new construction wouldn't do it much harm. In fact, Gensokyo probably has interesting things that aren't really important enough to be included in the main universe- things like abandoned old shrines and homes, hermit caves, a few graves, crashed planes, etc. etc. We could scatter a few interesting easter eggs through out the map to be found by the aspiring explorer or something- even triggering hidden secret quests.

I appreciate the feedback, however half of your comment seems to lean towards a completely different subject. The entirety of the Voile Library is based on fanart. If anything making mouth-dropping fanart come to life is what has made us different from THC.

There is already an easter egg in my Hakurei Shrine as well, and I have another in the Hakurei Shrine spring. I'll try my best to make my shrine look less bland, however. Please keep giving criticism.

I think one thing that might make it look "bland" is the "smoothness" of the rafters and other areas. One thing i like about the current shrine is how it uses single blocks of logs jutting out to make it look like they're actual logs stacked on to form the rafters/support. That's just an example, but maybe that smoothness gives a feel of sythenticity whereas more "chaotic" type builds (less smooth, more juts and such) give a more "organic" feel.

It's also really early in the morning so i might not be making sense

UPDATE: Changed all light blocks to white wool under Yuyuko's suggestion. Also added a pattern of trunks on the sides of the shrine in order to add in more detail and make it look less "bland" while still maintaining that simplicity touch it had before. Specifically made it so the trap doors on the side did not collide with the trunks as it looked odd when they were on top of them.

Please continue to give criticism and feedback! I think it's already improved massively because of Yuyu's simple suggestion.

Massive improvement. I absolutely love the trapdoors on white wool!

I can't quite tell, but how much space oldoes the porch area have around the sides and back? It looks like there's one one block of space, though I'd imagine there's two blocks.

Not a lot, should I expand? How many blocks should it be?

I think maybe two or three should be fine. Again, i only brought it up because the image looked like it was only one block wide.

A small nitpick, but I think black wool would be better than Obsidian.

Made the roof black wool, and increased the size of the patio.

DELICIOUS WANDERFUL except for the last picture- again, it's a little too simplistic and boring.

Basically what Hat said. I really like how it's starting to look, but maybe add something on the sides to spice it up. Not necessarily parts of the building but rather something just as a "decorational" item. Maybe an open window would look nice as well? Just a suggestion, though.

                              I like it :3

Simple additions, but makes a whole world of difference, especially at night with the lighting!
