Some common problems people may experience:
DirectX errors (such as DirectSound, d3dx9_43.dll, etc) can be solved by updating DirectX from either the Microsoft site or by installing it when prompted in the Touhou installer.
Japanese text may cause Hopeless Masquerade to crash when you reach Hata no Kokoro. Just change your system language to Japanese and it should work.
If Double-Dealing Character is crashing on startup, you most likely didn't rename the folder as was instructed. Otherwise, try launching the game in fullscreen mode (uncheck the last box [picture]).

The 13.5 v1.01 patch changes and breaks certain parts of the game.
Futo's plates are more spammable and multiple can stay on the screen. She becomes easier to play in the v1.01 patch, imo.
However, the patch breaks Koishi. Her vines now cause the game to crash.
I'm not sure if this is just a problem that only I am experiencing, but it's something to note.
