Heeeey guys~

As some of you may have heard, I'm redoing a school project. =/
This time I'm going to be looking for the typical things you find in Greek mythology and then I'm going to be seeing if I can find those things in mythologies of other cultures.
These other mythologies will be Japanese, Norse and Mesopotamian.
I would like to ask if any of you know any famous myths for any of these 3, cuz I'll only be looking at 5 myths per culture, to keep things balanced (and keep work on the light side, cuz studying literature is NOT my strong point).
I've also already chosen the 5 Greek myths, so don't bother posting about those.
Also, I will be mentioning all of the people who helped me with the report at the end of the report, so right now it would be:
And special thanks my friends from YukkuriCraft: <Oni's real name> (OniKing44) and Yukibara, who have helped me gather information about these tales.

(Oni's an example for those who wanted their IRL names included and Yuki's an example for those who didn't, tho Yuki didn't want to be added, but I'll leave her there as an example).
If you post, please mention if you want your irl name added or not and if you want it added, either write it down here, pm me or message me through Skype (irl name, so not telling), Steam (Leon_99465 or 99465 (idk which)) or other stuff if you have me there.
Thanks in advance.

-Leon_99465

Edit: If I hear many people suggest a certain mythos (Like Wriggle mentioning Korean for example), I will consider adding them and replacing another, so if u don't know any Japanese, Norse or Mesopotamian but want to help, there's your chance. :D

Touhou's literally littered with Japanese myths so if you dig a little bit you should find a lot of Japanese mythological stories.

I know a bit about Korean mythology and if you want to know more just pm me @w@

I know pretty much nothing about Greek mythology except for Zeus appearing like 10 times in his own family tree.

Wait you're looking at parallels between cultures mythology?
Start with gods/spirits that represent common aspects of life. I.e. Time is a goldmine. Chronos, Aeon, Ananke, and some others I can't think of atm have more than just the typical Greek and Roman parallels.
Heck even entities of various aspects of war and fate (which, if you find the aspects of fate that tie in time then you could go gangbusters on this) have greater parallels running around. Check things like the Moirai and Nemesis.

So what specifically are you looking for? Are you trying to compare them? I can go run around the internet for some Japanese myths.
These websites could help out. I'll still be running around and add more to the a list, here are two for now

First of all, thanks for the tips. I'll try and utilise them if possible.

Second of all:
UPDATE: I've changed one of the mythologies.
Because there was little to find about the Mesopotamian, I had to change it. (I did find it a really cool idea to use it, but it'd be too difficult.)
So now, instead of Mesopotamian, I'll be using the Egyptian mythos, which was suggested by my aunt while we were looking for books in a library in London yesterday.
Welp, time to start reading some books, I guess... *softly sighs*

One more thing:

Technically, every Greek god is inbred.
Everything stems from Chaos, which created Gaia, who created Uranus.
Then GaiaxUranus created the first step of inbreeding: the Cyclops, Hecatoncheires, Cronos, Rhea, Coeus, Phoebe, Oceanus and Thetys.
Then 2 steps were taken: CronosxRhea created Hestia, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus, Hera and Demeter and Uranus' severed ball sac created Aphrodite.
Then, of course ZeusxEVERY WOMAN started, causing measureless inbreeding.
Honestly, I'm amazed they only had 1 god who suffered the consequences of inbreeding (Hephaestus, the blacksmith god, who was born from ZeusxHera. Hera even found him so hideous that she initially threw him off Mount Olympos!!!).

Here are some suggestions for what stories to read from norse mythology.

Völuspá (Voluspo) basically a summary of all important events, most well known eddic poem, if you miss out on this, the bad bad bad
http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/poe/poe03.htm

Death of Balder This is the story of how Balder died, which signified the start of Ragnarok and what happened to Loki who heldped slay him. (This is a story that is kind of hard to link to a definitive story within both the Poetic and the Prose Edda. If you already read "Völuspá", then you read a retelling of the events. The easiest choice is to read a well put together story I found, although I don't know how correct it is. The other option is to dip into "Gylfaginning", the first part of The Prose Edda. I'm pretty sure what you read there is more correct, although it doesn't go into as much depth. I would recommend you to do both to get a good understanding of the story. If you want more info here, then I would say to also read "Baldrs draumar" too, as it's a part of the story http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/poe/poe13.htm)

http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/tml/tml20.htm (alternative, in depth version)
http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/tml/tml21.htm

http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/pre/pre04.htm (what's found in the Prose Edda, go to XLIX and L)

Þrymskviða (Thrymskvitha) a popular story of how the frost-giant Thrym steals Thor's hammar and requires Freyja as payment. Thor dresses up as Freyja and steals back the hammer.
http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/poe/poe11.htm

http://sacred-texts.com/neu/tml/tml18.htm (alternative version)

Hymiskviða(Hymiskvitha) Not the best written piece there is, but one of the ones I remember. Basically tells the tale when Thor nearly manages to fish up Jormungandr
http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/poe/poe09.htm
http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/pre/pre04.htm (Go to XLVIII)

http://sacred-texts.com/neu/tml/tml16.htm (alternative version I found)

Vafþrúðnismál(Vafthruthnismol) or Grímnismál(Grimnismol) There isn't really that big of a story in either of these, instead you can find much general information from them, esoecially about how the worlds were made, who lives there and other stuff like that.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/poe/poe06.htm(Grímnismál)
http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/poe/poe05.htm(Vafþrúðnismál)

Note: I don't know how accurate the alternative versions I have linked to here are.

Thanks for your aid Katrix.

Now, let's take this opportunity for a little 'how far am I?'. (I am really reluctant to double post >.<)
Right now, I've dropped Egyptian, because of the amount of added content it would bring, so I'm just going to focus more on three instead of a 4th one too.

For Greek, I've also summarised the basic creation story, followed by the creation of the first 6 gods (Chaos to Chronos is done short, but Zeus etc is a bit more in-depth), the Ilias and the Odyssee (with a perfect 999 words, I kid you not).

For Japanese, I've summarised the creation story until the rebellion of Susano-o (he wasn't happy that he only got to rule the seas), the tale of Yamata no Orochi and, of course, Taketori Monogatari, also known as the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.

Lastly, for Norse, I've summarised the creation story... holy shit that text is LOOOONG! (summarised version is 1321 words...), the Þrymskviða, which I actually found just a bit before Katrix posted this (I remembered him telling about Thor losing his mighty Mjollnir, so I looked it up myself, plus dad was nagging about trying to not be too dependant of people) and right now I'm busy with the Death of Balder.

Right now I'm at... 8063 words (in the entire document) and 48 hours (that's over 50% more time than I did for the last one, which was my main reason for failing that report (my partner did around 80hr while I did 30hr... (I didn't know we were supposed to work at home too instead of just at the times we came together >.<))

Update: finished the summary of Balders Draumar (Balder's dreams, basically that Death of Balder story).
I've also made a little ToC (Table of Content) so you can find everything:

Okay... I just finished just about everything for my project. :D
I just have 1 (giant) problem... I got a mail from my teacher, saying: 'The Ilias and Odyssee aren't myths, they're epics with myths intertwined in them.'
So... I either have to find the myths in those two epics, or I have to find lose myths....

EDIT: A third option is writing down "The Ilias and Odyssee aren't simple myths. They are both stories that are categorised as Epics, which have multiple myths imbedded in them."
I mailed my teacher about it to check if this 3rd option is a viable option and if yes, then I'll do that.

Mythology Project

Hope you can do that, because everything I can think about the two epics are... Troy, Giants, a siren/nymph... Eh that's it.

EDIT: oh yes! And a bunch of gods
