    [Short Story] The Old Man

    Literally a short story. I heard this one from a friend.

    An old man who lived by himself realized that he had closed the door more times than he had opened it.
    Let that one sit and boil for a while :P

    The keyword is "More times than he had opened it."
    That is deep stuff...

        Well? Which one?

          This story can have two meanings.

          One is somewhat sad and tragic, that he didn't do anything meaningful with his life, while the other one would make for a horror story.

          Could it be that somebody else opened the door, leading to the old man closing the front door of his house more times than he had opened it?

          The old man lived by himself, so nobody else could have opened the door other than him, so if he closed the door more times than he had opened it, then someone else is in the house with him...

              @Trouble

              The old man opens the door to his front house and closes it as he enters. After a short amount of time, he comes back to close the door again because he sees the door is open. He spends a little bit of time trying to figure out why the door was open, and comes to the conclusion that he forgot to close the door, that his mind must be addled from old age.

              After a short amount of time, he comes back and sees that the door is open again, but this time he realizes that he did close the door the first and second time around, and that he closed the door more times than he had opened it, meaning that somebody else had to have opened the door. Why? Because he is the only person living there.

              Get it now?

                    Anyways I agree with S121's answer.

                        @Jacobus

                        Better lock your door next time.

                        Nevermind, that's a bad idea.

                          An even sadder outlook is that even though people come, he sees them leave and has to close the door behind them.
                          Or...something like that.
                          I can't explain very well how it works. =w=;

                            He hates to see his guests leave.

                              Because to a degree, I don't know what I was thinking meself ^^;
                              All I do know was that it was similar.
