Actaully the second concept would explain the moment when Aion's eyes change from grey to red....
It would explain why the change occured.

Well if I look through what Aion goes through...
First he's a noble, then he's reincarnated without those memories, and then he gets back all memories.
His mentality could easily shift 3 times through the story. Right now, however I only have two eye colors set for him: grey during the second and red during the first. There could be a third eye color he has... or maybe even a fourth...

Actually, when he's a noble he might have orange eyes. The red would be a return to his original self except different because of the experiences during the time when he didn't have his original memories.
Now the fourth could be towards the end of Phoenix... Which I have no idea what color it could be but if I did go through with it, Aion would effectively have a different eye color each part of the story.

@Cucoo

Hmm...

The question is, what does the color for the end of Phoenix need to reflect or signify?

And that would be the main problem. The original reason for grey and red were:
Grey - Emptiness (not quite white so not quite a "blank slate") representing his missing memories. And for ashes...
Red - Fire (his passion and wrath were admired and feared by others and as a noble he made use of it.)

...maybe there is no fourth color but the third is one eye red and one eye grey...

Tbh Aion also has a few Phoenix references himself. 1) literal Phoenixes are common in Helios System compared to others and he befriended one. 2) his rebirth 3) Ignis.

Ahh, I see.

Hmm...

Well, what about the fact that Aion fights the Unknown once more, this time as a last hurrah of sorts? What would his eye color be? Would he have hope during this time?

What are your thoughts?

Who says it needs to be one eye color? He has two eyes, you know. Just sayin'. Heterochromia's cool.

Sometimes when you're driving down a road, a bug hits your windshield. It's ugly and unpleasant, but you just activate the wipers / cleaning fluid and it's gone in a few seconds. It's just part of driving down the road. You don't dwell on it, because that'd be silly. Bugs aren't worth the time.

You just discard their guts and keep on driving.

@ Mima

Aye, I kinda had that in my head when I mentioned that the third could just be one red and one grey.

@ S1

Probably red again just to show him coming full cycle... though part of me thinks that he would still be different which might mean he has a different set of eye colors...

Actually... there is something that I've been meaning to develop properly that might be connected to the Caeles in general and might help on this...

This emblem is not only a centerpiece of the Shards of Starlight, but also found in the Manor of Eternity.
...though it would be strange if Aion's eye color reflected the two main colors of the emblem...

Why would it be strange?

Idk...
If you look at the colors and think about Aion... it just doesn't seem right but... eh might just be me.

Also I don't even remember what the emblem even represents anymore.

Only thing I can remember is that I divided it into 6ths and that 3 parts would then be of the purple and 3 parts of the sky blue... and that meant something.
...Also I keep forgetting this but EG has a lot of things that come in sixes.

6 Shards of Starlight
6 Solar Systems
6 Artifacts of Heaven's Forge

and a few other things I can't remember right now.
