Meanwhile, thus far in the Gaia timeline I've set that in the Palace is a Demonarc Arachnae. Specifically of someone that should be long dead: Achlys Noxima.

Demonarc Arachnae dwarf Umbras in terms of size and threat level on the scale of "beings you would not want as an enemy." Luckily they retain their identity unlike Umbras and in Achlys's case, she became one against her will (it was done to revive her) and therefore despises the power she's been given since she sees it as the power to destroy. She's sleeping at the core so, since I can throw in some dialogue there to direct them on how they can repair the Palace with a Nova Engine. Expect her to suggest that they need to find two crystals that have matching "harmonics." And expect her to suggest that the best place to find them is in a pre-existing Nova Engine.

So is Arachnae an antagonist or an ally?

I think that she is in the middle, depending on how the sides look, she would take the one she feels is the right one

WAIT A MINUTE, CUCOO, COULD THAT DEMONARC I WAS PLANNING ON INTRODUCING BE AN ARACHNAE CLASS DEMONARC AND STILL BE ABLE TO TAKE OTHER PEOPLE'S FORMS?

Arachnae are incapable of "shapeshifting" like an Umbra or swarms of Lessers.
I'm almost to a point in the timeline where I'll have to summarize what each variant of Demonarc can and cannot do.

I want him to have an identity, but still have the ability to body-snatch as it were. I was thinking of giving him some ability to tamper with people's memories as well. Not so much rejigger them or whatever, but bring them to the surface. Forced Recollection I guess you could call it.
