Phenom's reaction, or maybe lack of reaction, to his search for signs of life made the response rather obvious to Terra. Something gouged into her heart. How many had died? It must have been a big number, right? Terra didn't know how to react, how to even think... for what seemed like a long time. She just heard the words "they're dead" resound through her mind, over and over and over again. They're dead.

Terra snapped out of this state when she heard that she might need to fight more. Terra stood and turned to Phenom. "You want my help?" She seemed genuinely shocked. It wasn't that she didn't want to help out, but she wondered why he wanted some fifteen year old girl to help. He probably hadn't even seen her fight, and he most certainly was stronger than she was. This wasn't even her low self-esteem talking. Terra was just baffled. Plus, what with all of the... death around, she wasn't sure she should get involved.

Phenom nodded, "I may need it. You're the only one here with any real ability to fight grand odds. If he takes my form... I'll be busy dealing with him.." He took a moment to ponder the entire situation. It would be best if the civilians were far from the colony when the next raid came. Less to worry about defending. However, there seemed to be no real way of transporting them out of the village unless..

Phenom pressed his fingers to his earpiece once more. "Lachesis, please send five dropships to my location. Couple dozen civilians we need to get out of here until this colony is safe again." He turned on his heel and stepped out of the room, heading down into the foyer to inform the civilians of their impending evacuation.

After Phenom walked out, Terra remained in the room for a few moments. Falling back into the room's bed, her hand went to her aching head. How could she process everything that had just happened? People were... dead. How could Terra even face that. Had she even met any of the people who died? Now that she thought about it, she probably asked a lot of them for a way back home. She could remember some of their faces clearly. Then, their images in her mind were ripped apart, replaced with blood.

Terra's eyes snapped open again. She didn't even remember closing them. She had nearly passed out from exhaustion again. I can't fall asleep right now, she thought. Adam or Phenom might want to talk to her. Or... she could have nightmares...

It was difficult to leave the comfort of the bed she was lying on top of behind, but she stood. Terra rubbed her eyes for some time, then shook her head one more time and patted her face with both hands. Then she walked out of the room.

Meanwhile, she mentally prepared herself for when she would need to go back into battle. You've always wanted to be like a hero in a fantasy novel, Terra told herself. Now that time has come, hasn't it? So why are you so afraid? The answer was simple. Terra didn't want to die.

She stepped back out into the inn's lobby. Little seemed to have changed, save for Phenom getting ready to warn the villagers of what was to happen to them. Terra fell into place beside Adam, a quick greeting passing between them both before they turned their attention to Phenom.

Phenom cleared his throat loudly as the civilians in the inn spoke amongst one another. When they did not silence, he continued with a rather loud "AHEM!" The citizens immediately silenced and looked to Phenom. He spoke with authority, making sure to project his voice throughout the inn.

"In fifteen minutes, five small ships will be landing outside of this inn. You are to board them in an orderly manner, as the crew members instruct. Deviation will not be tolerated. This is for your safety, and you will be returned here as soon as possible." he said, "Are there any questions?"

One of the militiamen spoke up, "Yeah, I got a question, who do you think you are telling us what to do?"

Phenom vanished and reappeared behind the man with the dull end of a knife against his throat, making it very clear that if they were truly wanted dead, they would be dead. The rest of the militia simply gasped at how quickly, in the blink of an eye, the event transpired.

"I am the man who is making sure you stay alive, right now. Your safety is guaranteed provided you comply with our instructions. Understand?"

"Y-y-y-y-y-yeah, settle down, man!"

"Good.." He re-sheathed his knife "Any other questions?"

"I've got one," said one of the women in the crowd, "Why exactly are we being flown out of here now? You said you drove them away!"

"I have reason to believe that they will come back, looking for me. I need to make sure this ends here and now. As such, I must stay here. If I don't, the rest of the planet may suffer the same fate. Anyone else?"

The inn was silent.

"Good." Phenom said, turning and stepping away from the crowd, who went back to their discussions. He pressed his fingers against his earpiece and spoke. "Lachesis. Contact Keegan. Have him gather materials to make a single shot M.D.R. for Metkiy with. Additionally, you may want to deploy Amanda and Gaspard with the dropships. I'll need people who can react to me. Amanda doesn't have a limit on her Blinks and Gaspard's foresight will keep him alive..."

"Whatever you say, Phenom. Expecting a rough fight?"

"A very rough fight."

Hunteri Convoy Fleet – Sol Incineron
For the first time in what seemed an eternity, Ian felt alive. His Interceptor, Trac’ir, was kept to spec despite their downtime on Inopia. He made sure of that. No way in Deivi’pa was he not going to be ready for when Aion gave the signal. When he finally did, Ian felt relief course through him. We were ready. “Ok we’re on schedule to RV with Aion’s group at Helios.” He glanced to his left wing where Elise was flying in her Striker-class fighter. He could see the smile on her face as she nodded enthusiastically. She’s happy, too. The family is coming together again; this time bigger than before. All around them was his fleet of Hunteri: freighters, transports, fighters, and gunships numbering in the thousands. Ian had watched this fleet, his fleet, grow from only a few hundred to a true force to be reckoned with. Now it was time to merge it with the fleets of his brother and sister Hunterii. The Nihiliods won’t stand a chance against our collective might.

The Rixtrigan activated from its long sleep as if it, too, was waiting for this time to come. “Shall we gate straight to Duon?” His second-in-command asked the question with a tinge of excitement in his voice. “We’ll be early if we do.” Ian knew that the men and women under his command felt just as he did: they all didn’t want to land too soon.

“Nay, let’s gate to a nearby planet.” He glanced at Helios’s system map to see which gates were a bit further out. “There’s a gate near H-BP05, which is in the area.” A boundary planet. Might be dangerous. Or, if I were to think like Dalia or Joe, might be exciting. That thought brought a smile to his face. “Aye, let’s go with that. Lock gate targeting to Gate number 711505.”

“Affirm. Locking gate to target.” The Rift Gate’s four rim pieces floated into position forming a cross. Energy beams cracked between opposite sections, growing in brightness as more Gaia’va was pumped between them. Finally the two beams split into four which opened into a circular disc. Before there was no planet beyond the Rift Gate; now the fleet saw a blue and green marble. “Gate synchronization complete. Rift is stable.” Ian, who just realized that he had been holding his breath during the process, breathed a sigh of relief.

Hunteri, rapi’at!” move out! With that command, they flew through the fissure.

Hunteri Convoy Fleet – H-BP05

“I’ve never seen a planet like that before.” One of the younger Hunter pilots, Sarah, gazed in awe at the planet they were approaching. “Well, not in person.”

“Nevertheless, it’s a BP. We need to be careful.” Kev was always the cautious one of her flight, which she guessed was why he was flight leader and not her. “Hope that we don’t have to go down there.” Then the twins of the flight, Sev and Ves, chimed in.

“Aw, don’t say that.”

“Now if Strix Five decides to go down there, he’ll bring us, too.” Both of them finished that statement in unison. Their flight of four, true to Hunteri tradition, was always in high spirits. The only thing that they broke from tradition was that their leader wasn’t flying an interceptor. Sarah held that role.

“Well, I won’t mind exploring a bit.” She said with longing. We came here to stay flying a little longer, and here I am wanting to see the planet. She was waiting for Kev to continue on about how that would be suicidal but then realized he had been quiet for a while.

“Looks like you’ll get your chance.” He finally said. “Strix Five just ordered us to accompany him into the atmosphere. Found a ship in orbit that might belong to some Oudri’sa trying to colonize the planet. He decided to be nice and warn them that would be a bad idea.” Sev and Ves let out a short, singular laugh.

“Good guy Ian. Always one to warn tourist that Barcrats are not to be treated as pets.”

“Especially when it’s mating season.” Sarah couldn’t tell if it was Ves or Sev that said that; the twins were identical in more ways than just appearance. And to make things harder, they’re Irians. “Well, no point keeping our good ol’ general waiting, hmm?”

Kev made a low grumbling sound. “Indeed. And since you two are so eager to get there, you can fly point.” Sarah stifled a giggle at the twin’s wails of despair. Despite his hardened exterior, Kev at least had a more humorous side.

Sarah decided to ease the twins’ burden. “Don’t worry, I’ll fly point.” That way I reach the surface sooner.

Every Venturian Fighter had a specially designed coolant layer between the Forterium armor and the internal systems. Heat from reentry or, in the case of Interceptors, flight through low atmosphere at hypersonic speeds had no effect on them. The six fighters, Ian and Kev’s flights, broke into the atmosphere and maintained their high speeds. The colony and station were now in visible range. “Looks like that colony has been through a war.” Drak, Ian’s aide, looked intently at the readings his Brawler’s long-range sensors’ showed. “The station might be here to aid the Oudri’sa after they were attacked.”

“Attacked by what, though? With the amount of fire damage, could they have angered a Phoenix?” The Papillian flying as Drak’s weapons officer, Nev’ii, sounded skeptical. “If they did, they should be lucky to find any survivors.”

Ian shook his head. “Speculation won’t help us, or them, much. We might be able to warn them of any further dangers they don’t know of.” And help them find out what they need to know to survive this galaxy. “Let’s do a quick flyby. Drak, set your sensors to tell me what is down there. If there’s Nihiliods, I want to know.”

“Affirm. Beginning scan.” Drak stayed on Ian’s right wing. Behind them was their support flight, Fate. Ian always picked them when he felt that they needed a little extra luck. Luck, of all things the commander chooses to rely on, he chooses luck. Drak sighed, which caught the attention of Nev’ii.

“Something the matter?” Nev’ii had a way of sensing the mood of others. Drak always assumed it was because of Papillian’s innate ability to influence them that made them sensitive to it.

“No. Just wondering why our commander favors Fate squad.”

“Perhaps you should ask him sometime. Might be enlightening.”

Before he could comment further, Ian’s voice came through the ship’s comm. “Drak, what do you see? Anything we should be worried about?”

“Nothing hostile, sir. There’s life in one of the buildings. Might be where the survivors are.”

“Alright. We’ll land at the flatland nearby. Fate, feel free to join us.”

“Copy that. We’ll do a sweep of the area to cover your approach.” Another female voice could be heard in the background of Kev’s communication, which Drak assumed was the squad’s Interceptor pilot protesting the order.

Drak could only roll his eyes as he brought his fighter down alongside Ian and Elise’s. Sometimes I wonder if there is any consistency in the mentality of Interceptor pilots. Once the cockpit opened, Nev’ii jumped out and joined up with the rest of the flight with Drak following slowly behind. He felt being the aide to a commander known to his peers as Ian the Calm meant that he, too, had to adopt the same patience. Thus, he tried to never look like he was in a rush. The four Hunteri walked towards the colony. There was a sudden whooom sound of a fighter making an abrupt stop using burst thrusters. Drak didn’t even have to turn around to tell that it was Fate’s Interceptor pilot. She used her fighter’s speed to complete the sweep faster and then made a rushed landing. No patience.

Sarah ran up to the others and immediately let loose questions: “Are planets of Helios all this… green? What’s the best part of living on one of these planets? Didn’t you once live on Duon? It’s like this planet, right? Are there-“

Shacir.” Drak glared at her. “We’re not here to sightsee.”

Udi’se, maki’te. It’s quite alright.” Ian smiled playfully which was reinforced by Elise’s silent laughter. “She’s young still and has much to learn, much like you.” Drak groaned quietly. “Now as for your questions, adki’te, I’ll be glad to answer them later. Right now, let’s stay on task: Finding out what happened here.” The group, joined by the rest of Fate squad, made it to the building that supposedly had life signs within. “Well, here we are. Let’s take a peek at what’s inside, shall we?” Ian walked over to the door, only to find it kicked down. “Door’s open. I guess that means we can let ourselves in.” He walked carefully through the doorway; a slight twitch of his right wrist told Drak that he had activated his personal Aura shield. Everyone else followed suit.

Terra didn't really react to Phenom's information. There was really nothing he hadn't already told her. Of course, that didn't extend to the people around her, who took the news of their evacuation in their own way, be it compliance, anger, or fear. Adam seemed to be okay with it, at least.

"So, I guess we're evacuating then," he said, turning to Terra. "It's the best option, probably. We won't get hurt."

Terra looked over at Adam with a slightly guilty expression. "Actually... that man, Phenom, asked me to stay here and fight with him. I'm not going to be evacuating with you. Sorry about that..."

Surprisingly, Adam didn't seem too affected by this. "That makes sense, actually," he said. "After all, you were doing pretty well out there. He probably would want your help."

"I'm gonna ask him if I can get some sleep first. I'm exhausted from all of this... and my head is still pounding..." A longing look was extended from Terra's eyes to the stairs. She needed sleep... She needed sleep badly.

Adam nodded. "Ok." Then, he put a hand on her shoulder. "I'll see you again when you win." Terra blushed, but he had already turned and walked away.

Terra looked over to where Phenom was and approached him. "U-uh, excuse me, I know you want my help and all, but... would it be alright if I went to sleep for the rest of the night first?"

Phenom turned his head slightly in Terra's direction and nodded. "Yes. I did say you should rest after that fight, after all..."

He then heard the creaking of new boots on the floor of the building. Someone uninvited was entering.

Almost immediately, Phenom had drawn his Desert Eagles and directed them at the newcomers, who somehow seemed to evade the gaze of the civilians within the inn.

"Stop right there." he commanded, making his voice more than present. "Identify yourselves, immediately."

Ian simply raised an eyebrow at the man's response. The men of his group, however, reacted as they had been trained to when a weapon is drawn against them: Lethal force. Had Ian not known this, a hail of Aura bolts would have ripped through the air.
"Udi'se, maki'ti" he timed the command just as they had dropped to one knee and took aim with their survival hand guns. Ian let the silence hang a moment more before he continued. "My name is Ian. I am the Commanding officer of the Hunteri of Inopia. We came to warn the colonists that this planet is dangerous. Though by the looks of things, you don't need us to tell you that."

"Indeed, we do." Phenom responded, clearly on edge. "I'm handling it. Now, Ian, I would advise your to put their guns away. Firing them will be the last mistake you ever make. That goes for you lot, as well." Phenom said, directing the latter portion of his statement to the civilians in the inn. They had simply learned not to contest anything Phenom said. "When your weapons go away, mine go away. Understand? And after that, tell me where you came from, and how you slipped by our scanners."

Ian merely nodded in agreement, which to Drak and the others was a signal to comply to the demand. "So you're handling it? I suppose that's why everything was on fire, then?" Drak, as he got up, made his signature growl at his commander's joke. "As for how we slipped past your scanners, well, our fighters are very hard to spot if you don't know what to look for. And that leads in to where we came from; the planet Inopia of the Sol Incineron system which neighbors this one. It's of the Inner Rim. Though, to an Oudri'sa, an outsider, what I just said should be a bunch of names that you never heard of before."
