Nah, I don't think energy shields would help them. It's kind like an aura.

As for the music. Yeah, there is a lot of sadness inside there. My favorite sad theme (if you exclude BBS because nearly everything sad is really sad there) would be Musique pour la Tristesse de Xion or Roxas's theme.

As for the dramatic themes I really like Night of Fate, The 13th Struggle and The 13th Dilemma.

For a mix of the two Fragments of Sorrow is a good one.

If you'd like I could make a list of the ones I think are the best.
