Just came back from a local otaku convention, S-Con. It's a small yearly convention that takes place in the town near where I live and I had been meaning to go for the past two years but various circumstances prevented me from going. This year, that changed. I went to the convention for the whole 6 hours and I had a lot of fun. There were merchandise from artists, t-shirt shops, and even the people from the Sheffield Space Centre came along (no, it's not like NASA. It's a large store for geeks and otaku). There were also competitions and little events during the con. A cosplay competition, karaoke, a Pokémon tournament, and a Smash Bros. tournament.
I didn't partake in any competitions/tournaments nor did I cosplay. If I did, I would have gone as either N from Pokémon or as Mamizou. A good number of my friends were present including a girl I know who is massive otaku. She cosplayed as Erza from Fairy Tail and she looked AWESOME! Probably amongst the best cosplays there. My ex was also there and she cosplayed as Renamon from Digimon. She won the cosplay competition... My ex won the competition! Out of all the entrants, my ex won it! Grr...!
Anyway... The rest of the entrants and cosplayers were awesome. There was a Team Flare grunt and a Team Rocket grunt, Ruby Rose from RWBY, a bunch of vocaloids, Rose Lalonde from Homestuck, Gimely from LOTR, Kyouko from Madoka Magica, Professor Oak, Jon Snow from GoT, my friend as Erza, the Joker, Horseman :p, and so many others.
As for the sweet loot (because I did get some), I got:
- A Fairy Tail poster with Lucy on it
- A Negima poster
- All the volumes of the Chobits manga
- All the volumes of the Angelic Layer manga
- Two t-shirts from Genki Gear
- And a Sailor Neptune keyring
I will provide images of my t-shirts, keyring, and posters in due time. I still need to get my posters set up.
Overall, it was a great day and I had a lot of fun. I'm a bit worn out from all the singing and dancing that I did as well as the walking and socialising with con goers. Right now, I just want sit back and read Chobits. I had heard high praises about it and, considering that it is made by Clamp, I had to get it. Furthermore, I got its prequel, Angelic Layer. You can tell that I am going on a bit of a Clamp manga spree... Eheheheheheh... All in all, this had to be amongst the best days of 2014. I can't truly say if it is the best but I was great nonetheless.
