*huff huff huff*
A dark city surrounds an abnormally tall building. One that appears as appears as though it stretches, black and twisted, into infinity.
*thump thump thump*
Within the tower, a girl runs. From what, she does not know. She does not know why she is there or how she came to be there, but her body screams to flee. Flee for her life, lest whatever is hunting her catches her. So she obliges. Her footsteps echo throughout the empty corridors of the rise, and her eyes endlessly scan the dark halls for her next exit. She rounds a corner and instinctively slams a door behind her. She turns around and heads up another flight of stairs, a routine she feels she's been repeating for an eternity now. She pauses at the next landing for a moment to try and catch her breath; her throat feels as dry as a desert, and her heart has been beating against her ribs for... possibly hours now.
*CRASH*
The girl hastens to the railing to look down. A blob, blacker than night, formless as melted wax, bursts through the wall on the floor below her. Fear revisits her face as she turns and retreats through the next door, not bothering to close it this time. For the eternity that she had been running, it felt as though she was slowing, because the creature was gaining on her. But she had to be nearing the top, she just had to be. She continues her endless marathon, perpetually ascending, hoping that salvation awaits atop the tower.
Seconds turn to minutes. Minutes turn to Hours. Her body becomes exhausted, but her legs yet carry her, ever upwards to the summit of the spire. Eventually, she sees it. A light, breaking through a doorway! She bursts through as quickly as she can...
Only to be met with nothing. She takes a few steps out and glances around. The salvation her body had strived so painstakingly toward did not await her. In fact, it became frighteningly clear that the only one now on the roof with her, was her pursuer. She turned to face the thing that chased her so vehemently as it rose high above her. She took several steps back, the towers atop the building being swallowed up by the ever-growing darkness before her. Her expression of fear changed to desperation and terror. She was going to die here and she knew it. She looked back as she stepped, catching a view of the dark and otherworldly city below her. But one more thing now caught her eye. There was a black figure stood atop the spire with her, standing at the edge of the roof. The figure looked masculine in nature, and it held out its hand. She had two choices: Wait for her hunter to descend upon her, or run to the figure and take his hand.
She took the second option. She turned and ran for the pitch-black man, stretching out her hand to take his. As their hands joined together, the black figure pulled her against itself and leaped from the building, the girl in tow. As the two plummeted towards the ground, the girl thought to herself. Why was this happening? Why her? Was she going to die in this moment, or was there a reason this darkened man had come to her rescue? She closed her eyes and hoped that she would be safe...
And then she woke...
"DAHLIA!? ARE YOU UP AND MOVING YET?!" called a voice in the distance. The girl opened her eyes, greeted by the familiar view of her bedroom and the scent of a healthy breakfast on the stove downstairs. She sighed in relief as she flipped over, burying her face in her pillow.
"That dream again..." she groaned.
There exists a world, beyond our sight, locked behind our minds. A powerful barrier separates this and our world. Many call this world "Imagination," some call it "Fantasy," others "Fiction."
The true name of this world is lost to the ages, but its inhabitants prefer to call it "Fantasia."
Fantasia is the world where dreams come true. In a far more literal sense than one might hope for. Fantasia, currently represented by a black and twisted city, is where all constructs of imagination go to live upon conception. This world has existed for as long as mankind has wondered, as it represents the entirety of the human imagination in its collective existence. Within this city live the various creations of the human mind, known simply as "Figments."
Occasionally, Fantasia is visited by humans, known to the Figments as "Imaginandi;" Humans who can manifest their own imaginations right before them. There are several kinds of Imaginandi: Imaginandi Magnus, Imaginandi Impotens, and Imaginandi Invalidum. Magni are a rare breed, and fully capably of utilizing the abilities granted to them in Fantasia. These individuals are often revered as gods among figments, while some others are feared as demons.
The most widely known Magni are a young man named Deus, and a number of other, less savory Imaginandi. Impotensi, the most numerous, are incapable of utilizing the abilities they've been granted, either because they simply lack the will power or have lost the ability in one way or another. All hope of becoming Magni is not lost on them, however. They are fully capable of regaining their abilities. The final form of Imaginandi, Invalidumi are humans who have lost their minds upon entering Fantasia. They are Invalids as their name implies, incapable of properly living on their own, but cursed with the extended life spans the Imaginandi inherit.
Imaginandi are all granted semi-immortality. They cannot die of natural causes, and their bodies need extraordinarily less nourishment to sustain themselves than would be needed in the real world. In addition to their inability to die naturally, their bodies cease aging at around a physical development of 24 - 30 years old. If an Imaginandi is "born" at an older age, their body's structure is returned to prime condition, while the exterior retains more or less the same appearance as before the Imaginandi was born.
Rules:
Contrary to Aeterna, your characters are pretty much NORMAL HUMANS in this, albeit a bit more durable for Rule of Cool purposes.
Magni cannot use their imagination to influence themselves or other people. They can create minor allies to help out from time to time, but that will require you to create an app that I must accept. So I suggest you use that sparingly. Otherwise, only weapons of reasonable size and other objects.
As I am an Atheist, there will be times where the story will imply that actual deities like God, Yahweh, Allah, etc. are constructs of the human imagination. If this is going to offend you, I suggest you not partake.
Multiple Characters are permissible provided you don't go overboard with them, capiche?
RELATIONSHIPS ARE A-OK. IN FACT, I ENCOURAGE THEM.
General roleplaying rules apply. I might have forgotten something. If you have any questions on the legality of your next post, talk to me.
