Light magic would be considered holy magic, which means that it can hurt the Devourer.

John may not be able to kill him, but he will show the Devourer that immortality can also be a curse.

All he needs to do is plant a "Holy Knife" into the Devourer's spine, preferably the base of the Devourer's skull, paralyzing or knocking him out until it's removed.

The Devourer's own weapon.

It's a fallen angel's weapon, which means that it is of the same "tier" as him.

Here's a metaphor, to explain what I mean.

You can't cut Titanium with gold tools, but you can easily cut Titanium with with Titanium tools.

Now it's just a matter of getting the weapon away from him.
