oh wait are you thinking spears as in...
...throwing spears? Javelins?

And ya, it's like, if you use an axe against a sword, it's a 10% difference (you lose 5%, they gain 5%)

Nope. Normal spears. The main strength they have is that they can keep more than a meter between you and your opponent. You can strike them, but they can't strike you.

aye, ok

and I think that's why Lances beat swords because of that.
Axes...because...they were desperate to make a weakness maybe.
The only logic I have on it is to say that axes break lances.

Which again comes back to strength and not hit chance. I think it's just the fact that they needed to make a weakness.

aye.

and now all this talk of FE makes me want to actually try to beat Lunatic mode =w= I've only done Hard mode and haven't attempted anything higher yet...
Though I seriously think that I would be able to now that I know how to exploit skills...

Also, the strange part of Fire Emblem, the beginning is always the hardest.

Isn't that the case in RPGs normally. In Kindom Hearts that is also the case because it takes some time to get the heal spell which is most likely your most important spell of them all. You also lack many advanced attacks that you get along the way. In the original KH you could choose if you wanted fast level progression in the beginning the middle or the end. Here is a chart I found on another website.

Level | Dusk | Midday | Dawn |
5 | 155 | 120 | 96 |
10 | 821 | 675 | 576 |
15 | 2041 | 1735 | 1506 |
20 | 3971 | 3465 | 3106 |
25 | 7221 | 6515 | 5986 |
30 | 12291 | 11515 | 10856 |
35 | 20291 | 19515 | 18856 |
40 | 33891 | 33815 | 33356 |
45 | 56091 | 57315 | 58256 |
50 | 91091 | 95715 | 99856 |
55 | 150291 | 160815 | 174856 |
60 | 220291 | 235815 | 264856 |
65 | 290291 | 319815 | 354856 |
70 | 364291 | 409815 | 444856 |
75 | 444291 | 499815 | 534856 |
80 | 524291 | 589815 | 624856 |
85 | 608291 | 679815 | 714856 |
90 | 698291 | 769815 | 804856 |
95 | 788291 | 859815 | 894856 |
100 | 878291 | 949815 | 984856 |

There are advantages and disadvantages with all three of them.

That's interesting

to choose how your leveling curve goes.

If I had that choice, with most games, I would choose towards the end.

Fire emblem...it doesn't matter. Lunatic/ Lunatic + just comes in brutality. from what I've read, 1 EXP point from anything except bosses and using healing staves.
and it's always 100 exp per level. sooo

...100 battles later...if your unit survives...
you can gain 1 FREAKING LEVEL
And then the base class cap is lvl 20.
...ya....
2,000 battles just to grind to base class cap...
...dear lords I'm dreading it already...

I can definitively see why you would want such a system. Kind of sad that it's not included too much elsewhere. Even KH droped it after the first game. They did keep the classes (normally Sword, Shield, Magic) a bit longer tough as for example the different characters in BBS and slightly in DDD.
