Near Flandre's Quarters - Scarlet Devil Mansion

After making sure that Koakuma could tend to the library in her absence, Patchouli flew up the stairs that connected her library to the main part of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Remilia had quipped that it would be a good idea to walk for a change, to get exercise, but Patchouli wrote that off as hogwash. She didn't have many places to walk to anyway, and if she wanted to go someplace, it was well out of walking distance. Flying was much too convenient to put down in favor of 'exercise'.

The fairy maids of the mansion were all busily tending to their duties, too engrossed to notice the mistress of the library floating past them. Their dedication was something to praise, but Patchouli knew that the fairies were simple-minded and lacked the intellect for high-difficulty tasks. Those were left to Sakuya, who would be delivering the book under Patchouli's hands had she not been off on a task for Remilia. The mage huffed in annoyance at that fact, but she found a tinge of joy in delivering a book herself. She was handing off knowledge to someone who may or may not respect it, and that was both exciting and terrifying.

She soon found herself at the door to Flandre's chambers. She knew it well after going through multiple twists and turns in the dungeons only to come to a large wooden door littered with chains and arcane symbols. Flandre didn't deserve all the work that went into keeping her locked away, but because she was dangerous and could not control herself, the wards were necessary. Patchouli raised her hand to the door to knock when she pulled back. Just what had come over her? Flandre was dangerous! She was better off going back to the library and waiting for Sakuya to come by.

Yet, Patchouli refused to move from her spot. She stood there with her hand raised to knock on Flandre's door, looking like a damned fool who couldn't make up her mind. She hoped nobody saw her before she made up her mind.

Hell of Blazing Fires

Utsuho was about to jump at the opportunity to get a delicious little snack, but it had been two hours since the Hell of Blazing Fires had been attended to. It was a wonder nobody appeared yet to ask about the drop in temperature. She knew that people would notice, so she opted to stay and do her job.

"I would love a snowcone, but I need to reheat the Hell of Blazing Fires before anyone notices the temperature drop... Can you bring me one?", Utsuho asked Orin.

Scarlet Devil Mansion

Then, footsteps could be heard beyond the other side of the door, seemingly waiting, or curious.

"Hello?" came a somewhat worried sounding voice of a little girl.

Hell of Blazing Fires

"Of course Okuu. Now what flavor do you want?" Orin asked.

Sometimes when you're driving down a road, a bug hits your windshield. It's ugly and unpleasant, but you just activate the wipers / cleaning fluid and it's gone in a few seconds. It's just part of driving down the road. You don't dwell on it, because that'd be silly. Bugs aren't worth the time.

You just discard their guts and keep on driving.

Patchouli's breath hitched. Flandre had heard her, even when she was being quiet. This presented a problem for the purple mage. She could walk away and return to her library, but in doing so, she would feel that old, unwelcome feeling in her heart: guilt. No matter how dangerous Flandre was, she was still a child at heart, and a child deserved better than a cold reception. It went against all good sense and reason, but Patchouli decided to do it anyway.

She knocked on Flandre's door and hugged the red book.

"Flandre? It is I, Patchouli. I... I thought you may want to have a book to read, or perhaps, I could read to you," she squeaked.

She did not know why she included that last part. If fear was influencing her words, it was not doing a good job at it if it was trying to get Patchouli killed. She held her breath and waited for an answer.

"A...a story?" Flandre said, sounding a bit excited. The door then partially opened, being stopped by the chains. Flandre just looked through the door, looking at Patchouli with her big red eyes.

Flandre's Chamber - Scarlet Devil Mansion

Patchouli hesitated when she saw Flandre's eyes staring out at her. She had seen a few horrors in her life, but seeing Flandre like this... No, it invoked more than just fear, it invoked sympathy. Mustering up what courage she had in her system, Patchouli cleared her throat and managed a small, nervous smile. She would rather be bedridden than admit that she was terrified to be standing here before a creature of such raw, undiluted power. Taking her own advice to heart, Patchouli pushed down her unease and looked at Flandre as if she really was the child who could use a story to brighten their day.

Perhaps that was akin to imagining the audience was in their underwear for performers and public speakers, she thought.

"Yes. A story, Flandre. I've brought a book for you to read on your own," Patchouli said as she held it up for the girl to see. "It's enchanted to speak and tell its stories, and it won't break as easily. I could also read to you, if you'd like."

Flandre's Chamber

"I don't want the book to read itself. I want a person. I want you, Patchy." Flandre's eyes looked excited, but also worried. "Will..will you come in?"

Hell of Blazing Fires

Utsuho looked slightly up into the air with a finger on her chin and thought for a moment about what flavor she should choose. She had a couple flavors of snowcone in mind, but couldn't quite decide on a flavor, so instead, she picked the easiest choice.

"I like surprises. Pick a flavor.", Utsuho said to Orin with a smile.

The Ancient City

"Sounds good." Nitori said. She had never been in the Ancient City before, but she still was nervous. There were oni everywhere, and who knew if she could trust them?
And according to Yuugi, her camouflage cloak wouldn't work. Her recent experience with Yuugi was enough to keep her calm, but she still didn't like it one bit.

Looking around, most of the oni seemed occupied by partying. Most of them were drinking, and the ones that weren't looked like they already had some.

"Going to your house sounds like a plan." she said, her voice wavering. Even though she walked into the city herself, she still didn't like it one bit.

"Nitori, calm yourself!" she thought. "If they have such a good sense of smell, they can smell your fear, and they might be able to take advantage of it."
She took a few deep breaths, and asked the first question that came to mind:
"Where do you get all of this alcohol from? You don't seem like people that have the patience to make it."

The Ancient City

Yuugi laughed at Nitori´s question "That my little kappa is a good question. We may look as easy going folks, and we are usualy, but we also have our regulations and laws. For example, try looking at the heaviest drunktards that start arguing, they will surely go to the point of punching eachother, but thats it, we know our strengths and have laws to maintain peace here. We won´t hurt someone who isn´t on our discussion neither we shall hurt someone on purpose for malicious plotting."

"And to answer your question about the alcohol, we got two things. The first one are some oni who enjoy making drinks and have a hell of a patience. How they manage to get the ingredients is still a mystery to most of the inhabitants of the city, but they don´t steal it, we had the Satoris check their minds to prove it. Now the second thing are the never ending beverages, this objects will never run out of alchoholic drinks, Suika has one of them and trust me they are really hard to make or find" the oni explained as they reached the house

"Welcome to my humble cave" the blonde opened the door as her home was a traditional japanese house with sliding doors, long corridors and a garden with both some flowers and a fountain "Please enjoy this place while I get a new pair of sandals and if you see a drunk Suika or a hiding Parsee, just tell them you are coming with me, they will understand" she said walking towards her room

Have you ever crossed the line between sanity and madness? You would be amazed by what lies beyond the fog..
