I think John might be able to figure it out.
The pumpkin is actually very similar to his armor. It can't be destroyed with blunt attacks. Cutting is one option, but a better one would be to pierce it.
John would probably pull out his Barret .950 JDJ Sniper Rifle and fire a .950 caliber, armor piercing, high explosive round at it.
It's either that, or he lasers the pumpkin until it burns a hole.:p

If Link joins the RP, it would be acceptable to have him talk. In fact, the whole shouting thing is just an LoZ meme. He can actually talk, it's just that nobody gave him dialogue.
