    Why not both? The mutation would work for those not infected, but that still leaves those who are. Make them resistant so they can't keep growing, then wipe them out with the bioweapon.

    Sometimes when you're driving down a road, a bug hits your windshield. It's ugly and unpleasant, but you just activate the wipers / cleaning fluid and it's gone in a few seconds. It's just part of driving down the road. You don't dwell on it, because that'd be silly. Bugs aren't worth the time.

    You just discard their guts and keep on driving.

      Perhaps

      Even with both, Nihiliods would soon render them useless at the rate which they adapt.
      It would serve as a point of futility.

      So then...
      MIMI is a sort of... Bioweapon perhaps? Maybe she's a special prototype that was deemed unsuccessful at first but then something came up in the results that made her relevant to further research.
      But perhaps the procedure they would perform on her is... less than humane. So the moral dilemma of whether to treat her as an object or a person arises due to the way her AI is: unique and bound to that body.

        Ok On to something else for a change of pace

        Vehicles.

        In the past I touched on Cruisers and Fighters...

        It's time to look at all the vehicle types that could be relevant.

        So time to fill in the categories of Air, ground, and naval...

        Let's start with something I don't normally do... ground vehicles...

        What kind of tanks, what names could we give the tanks, etc etc.

        Same for like transports and other things, like maybe even Anti-Aircraft...

        Ok let's see if I can derp out something...
        Acronyms actually mean something for once...

        Light Tanks
        Spoiler: Republic

        >MAG Series:
        MAG1A-F
        MAG3C-R
        MAG4T-U

        >RAA Series:
        RAA1-E1-5
        RAA4-B3-6
        RAA9-V7-9

        Medium Tanks
        Spoiler: Republic

        >AGP Series:
        AGP1D-4
        AGP4G-2

        >ACU Series:

        >SAU Series:

        Heavy/Super Heavy Tanks
        Spoiler: Republic

        >HAGP Series:

            simple things

            Like stupidly simple

            MAG -> Mobile Armored Gun
            RAA -> Rolling Armored Artillery
            AGP -> Armored Gun Platform
            ACU -> Armored Column Unit
            SAU -> Strategic Armor Unit
            HAGP -> Heavy Armored Gun Platform
            MBU -> Mobile Bunker Unit
            MAUS -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_VIII_Maus
            ...yeah I'm trying to think of an acronym for MAUS

            AAB-> Armored Aircraft Buster
            MRAD -> Right now drawing blank on the M and R, but I remember the A and D were for Aircraft Destroyer.

              Just had a thought...

              Thinking about vehicles and of course my natural fascination with aviation...
              I thought of a scenario that might make Aion in Shards of Starlight a bit more interesting...
              Most stories has the main character be normally the best in what he does... like Star Fox, Fox McCloud is an Ace pilot... Star Wars, Luke is an excellent X-wing Pilot... so on so forth...

              ...Originally I was going to say Aion was an Ace...
              ...But what if he wasn't...
              He might be a good pilot, but when it comes to being classified as an Ace, he falls short.
              In real life, a Flying Ace is a pilot with 5 confirmed kills.
              Now to make it true to form in EG, I would say the requirements for being an Ace would be 5 confirmed Maverick kills. In other words, 5 kills against manned aircraft.
              Doesn't seem hard because Aion flies an Interceptor (the "sniper" of aircraft in my interpretation)... But what if it is? Maybe Aion has kill's against drone pilots but no Maverick Kills.

              It also set's up an interesting dynamic where Aion might be a Squadron Leader, while his wingman and best friend Joe is an Ace. Joe would technically outclass Aion in aerial combat...

                This is more made for Corrupture but I can easily adapt this by changing the names of things.

                Wilted Flower

                "It's finally come to this."
                "Yes. It's finally time to settle our little war once and for all." Lotus responded to Joe. "Hawkeye..."
                "Lotus."

                Both of their craft were flying wingtip to wingtip. If either looked to their side, they could easily see each other, but neither pilot dared to do so. A moment of silence and then the two broke off from each other, flying a silently agreed distance before turning parallel again. A second of preparation and then the two aces pulled toward each other for their last dogfight. One would expect a degree of intensity as they engaged into horizontal scissors, trading left for right; right for left in almost perfect unison, yet Joe and Lotus had a somber air about them. Their maneuvers showed their frantic battle of wits to evade the other's approach while at the same time attempting to gain the upper hand, yet they themselves showed no sign of aggression toward the other. Lotus was the first to make a mistake as her concentration was broken by the feeling of her wing losing lift, preluding a stall. She made the slight correction to prevent it, however her minute maneuver didn't go unnoticed by Joe who capitalized on the window of opportunity, expertly getting on her six. Lotus now went into a frantic shallow dive in an attempt to put enough distance between her and Joe, who simply followed suit. With his target in his sights, Joe waited for the opportune moment to pull the trigger as he analyzed Lotus's erratic movements that were to keep him from getting a good firing solution on her. In the desperate movements of Lotus's aircraft, Joe saw his chance, firing a short burst towards her right wing, however Lotus also sensed her mistake and immediately compensated, forcing the shot to whizz past her canopy. Making another split-second adjustment, Lotus made a skidding turn, forcing Joe who had been too close to adjust his flight path to remain on her six to overshoot. Lotus's window to take a shot at Joe came and went as he made a high-g turn into the opposite direction of Lotus's, pushing his vehicle to its limit and breaking away from the engagement.

                <editing in more battle scene later>

                Low Fuel
                The indicator light made Lotus hesitate for a moment. This was it. Even if she turned the battle around and shot down her opponent then and there, she would easily be captured as she would have to ditch her craft. The though of being captured scared her. "They'll execute you." The thought echoed in her mind. She had lost. The sound of the missile lock that Joe had held on her for the last part of the battle seemed soothing to her at that moment. Her face was contorted with frustration and sorrow.

                "I'm going to die."

                She let the realization sit heavy on her mind. She felt vulnerable. Everything was now no longer in her control... except for one thing. How she dies. After a moment of choking back her emotions, she spoke to Joe. "Looks like you win, Hawkeye." Her voice cracked slightly as she spoke. "Time to end it," She waited for a response and when none came she continued, "What missile you have armed?"
                After a moment Joe responded, "AA-6."
                "Oh? An Acrid..." Lotus smiled faintly, "If it hits right... my craft will be incinerated." Joe remained silent as lotus spoke. "...Well... it was a good fight... Hawkeye..."
                She trailed off and both pilots sat there in silence that was broken only by Lotus's last words:

                "End it. Please."

                Joe hesitated for a moment. A part of him didn't want to kill Lotus. He sat there with his thumb hovering over the trigger. He was weighing Lotus's soul in his mind. He was given the role of prosecutor, executioner, and judge. He had to pass judgement upon her. In his mind he heard the voices of the fallen, those that he swore to avenge, crying out for him to end it.

                And so he obliged them.

                With the press of a button he handed out Lotus's verdict.

                Lotus breathed in sharply, her last breath of air. The air of the pressurized cockpit filled her lungs. It was as if that air was her life blood; the only true air in existence. It was familiar and comforting.
                She closed her eyes, a tear streaming down her face.

                The missile lock tone faded.
                Confusion set in as she opened her eyes and saw the glimmer of the lights of the control panels and the setting sun glinting through the canopy.

                Joe released his hand from the button that had switched his fighter to navigation mode. "Lotus..."
                Lotus stared blankly out into space. "W-what...?"
                "Let's bring you home." Joe smiled his usual caring smile as he pulled his craft beside Lotus's.
                "What- what are you doing?"
                "Escorting you back to base."
                "...they'll kill me..."
                "I don't think so."
                "They will...."
                "Lotus... You have been fighting because you were afraid. You don't need to be afraid anymore. You're not guilty."
                "But-"
                "You're not a killer. You're a fighter. This battle proved it to me."
                "What does that change?"
                "Everything."
                Lotus sat there thinking about what Joe just said. "Hawkeye..."
                "The name's Joseph Chetwyn. Joe for short."
                "Joe?" Lotus echoed blankly, realizing that the man she just fought is openly trusting her now.
                "And I'm Terrisa!" Lotus just then noticed the girl in the 2nd seat of Joe's fighter, waving to her with a big grin on her face. "I'm his sister!"
                "Terrisa..." This battle turned into a strange series of events for Lotus. One second she was fighting for her life, then she was ready to die, now she was uncertain about everything. It felt strange to her, especially to have her rivals suddenly trying to befriend her.
                "Well? Let's go before you completely run out of fuel." Joe remarked.
                Lotus snapped out of her thoughts at this reminder. she nodded in acknowledgement, with a smile creeping onto her face from a feeling she wasn't expecting: gratefulness.

                  Mechanical Soul

                  Dried blood lined the walls of the ruins of the once great space port. No corpses could be seen save for bare spots on the floor that might have been where a body once was. Ignis grimaced as she made her way through the structure, the sights and smells sickening to her. She remembered the days when there was always a bustling crowd here. Now she was walking amongst the ghosts.

                  Ignis turned a corner and found a sign that indicated that she was at the Medical wing of the Pangaea Space Port. The door to it was skewed slightly as if it had closed around something, or else something pried it open at a corner. Using her Reaver X, she forced open the door enough so she could slip in. She was greeted by more blood and a few broken stasis pods. Yet there was something about this room that caught her attention: there was one stasis module still running. With utmost caution, she approached the pod and inspected the immediate area around it.

                  Thats when she saw her, the mechanical android that was attached to the stasis module by cables. "N-Nemesis?!" Ignis gasped out the name as she looked upon what was left of the android she used to know hundreds of years ago. The mangled body of Nemesis was missing her left leg, right arm, and a small section of her lower torso. Her artificial skin was also torn away, revealing the mechanisms beneath. Seeing Nemesis's condition and the fact there were power cables integrated into her various wounds told Ignis that Nemesis had redirected most of her system's power to keep the stasis system functioning. She sacrificed her ability to repair to keep whoever was in the module alive. Ignis began to wonder who it was, but a hunch formed in her mind which made her hesitate upon opening up the view window. What she saw made her stomach churn. It was MIMI, Nemesis's Bioroid little sister. Her body was even in worse condition: amputated and organs barely contained in what was left of her body. Tubes and other mechanical systems were all that were keeping her together and alive as she lie there suspended in stasis. The sight of MIMI sent Ignis's mind reeling. "This...was this the doing of the Nihiliods?"

                  The sound of Nemesis moving slightly snapped Ignis away from these thoughts. She saw Nemesis was trying to turn her head to look at her, which alarmed Ignis as she noticed the power fluctuate in the room and made her kneel down so that Nemesis didn't have to move. "Nemesis! Don't strain yourself! It's me, Ignis! It's ok now! I'll get another power core so you can repair."
                  Before Ignis got up to hurry back to her ship, Nemesis turned on a monitor on the stasis pod showing how much power she had left: 5.0784% power... 5.0064%... 4.9801%... Ignis watched in horror as the remaining power dropped lower and lower. She didn't have time to get a proper power source from her ship and she didn't know what to do for Nemesis now.

                  "S-a-v-e... M-I-M-I..." The scratchy mechanical voice of Nemesis spoke out each letter of her message to Ignis.

                    Cross post

                    mmmm...note to self, re-read EGP so I can keep a bunch of concepts fresh in my mind.
                    Should revisit bioroids like the "Lost Princess" and use MIMI as a more current example.
                    Need to explore a possible connection between Bioroids and Arcains... As well as the effect of Nihiliod infection on Bioroids.
                    ...Also need to figure out how Bioroids store their conscious mind a bit more as I need to solidify that in order to figure out how to "Save MIMI" as I had started to write about in my last passage in EGP.

                    Comment

                      for bioroids, I have the idea of digitizing and transferring the personīs mind into the artificial brain. Like in Portal games.

                      Bioroids are, as you have said, in fact biologically created beings, I imagine the bioroids being like that, biological transfer would be rather harder than electronic one since you are dealing with way more uncertainties because with computer stuff, there is at least some things you can check and "control", but biology is unpredictable.

                      Heck Mara/Bryn is a combination of both styles
                      Have you ever crossed the line between sanity and madness? You would be amazed by what lies beyond the fog..

                        Right...
                        Perhaps the artificial brain functions as a replica of a real one with the transcribed data. The problem then would be to keep the brain alive. If the brain loses "power" then essentially the bioroid would be dead. The brain of a bioroid might have some independent power source to serve as a backup.

                        Now if that's applied... then saving MIMI would be...
                        ...surgically removing her brain while carefully trading out it's back-up power cores.

                        I'm going to say the bioroid brains are spherical for this purpose with a special dual core system for that.

                        Then the curious thing is... what is Nemesis's AI system... similar? She would probably be a more primitive design as she's a combat android. She might have the same kind of brain function as her AI was to evolve and adapt as would a human mind, which means she too can "die" if the brain loses power...

                        In the Scenario "Mechanical Soul" I intended on Nemesis possibly dying there as she uses the last of her energy to help save MIMI. Now the part I'm wondering about is should Nemesis be recoverable...?

                        Comment

                          Hm..

                          the human brain needs to be active, that is obvious, but what about putting the personīs mind into a temporal host? letīs say someone needs to be transferred from a terminal body to the one of an android/bioroid, but the transfer needs to be done on a far away place.

                          Here is where my idea comes from, the personīs mind can be "uploaded" to a temporal brain that stays in a state of minimum activity, like an induced coma, the mind can be then transported to the new body with the extended time it has now.

                          There is also the fact that the minimum activity wonīt work for too much time and so the mind will be lost if it is too late, here is were we can do something with NEMESIS, let its mind have someone as a host, there will be two persons in the mind of one, there will be the obvious initial struggle to adapt with each other, but with understanding, it could be done.

                          In short, it would be like Cortana, but ingrained directly into the hostīs mind
                          Have you ever crossed the line between sanity and madness? You would be amazed by what lies beyond the fog..

                            hm...

                            Considering Nemesis and MIMI are borne from sister AI Projects and were designed to be two sides of the same metaphorical coin, then there might be a way to transfer Nemesis into MIMI' Bioroid brain. Nemesis's body would be more resilient considering it was made to take a beating, therefore MIMI's brain is recovered from her body, Nemesis is salvaged by keeping her body but transferring her AI to MIMI's mind as well, and later when they have access to a proper power source, Nemesis's body can repair itself and MIMI's brain can be installed. There might not be enough individual power sources to keep the two brains independent which would require for a transfer.

                            In the RP, Mara might be needed to serve as a connection between Nemesis and MIMI while John's suit's power system recharges MIMI's brain to function for both.
                            For the story, It will be Ignis barely getting MIMI's brain functioning at full capacity and Nemesis using the last of her power reserves to transfer her AI through the system.

                            Sounds logical?

                            Comment

                              I was thinking of giving NEMESIS a new body so she can be independent like MIMI, I donīt know if MIMI could endure the mental struggle of having to minds in one body, she is technically a young girl of what? 15-18 years old?

                              I see NEMESIS as a clean slate, there is only the focus of the objective, but when facing direct human emotions, NEMESISī mind can become more as a person instead of an AI

                                Well considering how much time has passed, she probably doesn't age so she would still be 11.

                                So ok... we need two bodies.
                                Nemesis's body can repair provided with the proper power systems...
                                MIMI's... probably not as well...

                                Considering that a possible destination after PSP is the Daedalus Project, they could probably find systems that would help generate MIMI a new body.
                                Nemesis would probably sleep in MIMI's mind... don't know if that would help...
