Point is: the Memento Pocket Watch was a possession of Kiara's lover, a dark mage (that friend I mentioned) He cursed the pocketwatch so that it would grant Kiara the abilities of a dark mage if she did so choose, albeit very weak. Dark Mages in EG were alchemists and had all them dark art magics.
And blood...well
blood and dark magic kinda go hand in hand in some stereotypes.
