    Hoenn Region - Petalburg Woods

"Yeah, now that I have Fraxie, I feel safe against hordes now." Yuuka said as she entered the forest, oblivious to the fact that she was about to be ambushed.

Sherry yawned and acknowledged Yuuka's statement with nothing more than a shrug. She hoped that was the case, as getting ambushed by hordes of enemies was such a bother. Good thing it wasn't happening any time soon, though. That would be bad. Still, the agent couldn't help but think something was amiss. Two female trainers had run out towards Rustboro and put an end to the Team Anarchy operations there without so much as a wild goose chase and a brawl. It seemed... too easy.

One should take victories as they come, Sherry thought to herself with another shrug. When a J'avo died to an unexplainable cause, Sherry didn't search for an answer. She just reloaded her magazine and went to work keeping herself and her charge alive. Who cared about the 'hows' and 'whys' when there were more important things to deal with? With that in mind, Sherry felt pretty complacent at that point.

She didn't pay much heed to her Taillow's spastic head movements, as if Claire was anticipating an attack. But an attack or ambush would be silly, not to mention unfortunate and bothersome at that point.

A small rustle could be heard in the trees. Probably some insect Pokemon. Nothing too harming... They can easily be escaped away from...

Not when a tiny yellow spider dropped on top of Sherry's head.

"Joltik!" The tiny Joltik cried happily on top of Sherry's head, its' beady eyes smiling contently.

Sherry, uncertain of the intentions of this new creature, reacted as calmly as any other person would have done in this situation. Her eyes bulged, she flinched back, and she screamed in shock. To make matters worse, her Taillow was not prepared for an intruder to land on her trainer's head, so she was not taking the situation like a champ either. Both trainer and bird bobbed and weaved, freaked out by the new face. For Sherry, she had a bad image of some kind of forest dwelling, head-hugging plaga that somehow managed to get into this world. It was not something she wanted to have!

"Plaga! Get it off, get it off!"

In her flailing, the trainer managed to get the creature off of her head and into her vicegrip. She held it securely in one hand and brought her other up to curl into a fist for the pounding. Just as she was about to crush it with the power of the Sher, she noticed the tiny body, yellow fur, and beady little eyes that couldn't kill a fly even if they tried. And to make matters worse, the little nutter looked like it was scared half to death! But it had landed on Sherry's head like a maniac, and for Sherry Birkin, the agent who could never get used to getting jumped by aberrations, she couldn't take this lightly.

"Yuuka?" Sherry asked, hesitating as she locked eyes with the yellow creature. "What is this thing? A Pokemon? Is it bad? Should I kill it?"

Claire flailed nearby, eyes narrowed for the kill in case something went wrong.

"What are you talking about?" Yuuka asked, holding the scared Joltik up. The Joltik was barely 4 inches wide. "It's freaking adorable!"

"I don't even know what 'it' is!" Sherry shot back, glad that Yuuka held it at bay before she did something rash. "Come to think of it..."

The agent talked down her Taillow and urged her to stay back for a moment as she reached for her pokedex. Flipping through the files of regional pokemon and type listings, Sherry pointed the encyclopedia at the yellow tick pokemon and scanned it with her device. The red machine beeped and trilled before giving up the valuable information on the creature.

"It says here that this is a Joltik, an Attaching Pokemon. It clings to larger Pokemon to absorb the static electricity they give off." Sherry arched a brow. "Just electricity? I figured this was a parasite, but now that I see it, it's... kinda cute, I'll admit that." Sherry deposited her Pokedex and extended her hand to the Joltik. "You're a friendly little thing, aren't you? Sorry for my reaction; I'm not used to... Well, I'm a little jumpy I guess."

The Joltik squirmed his way out of Yuuka's grip and crawled towards Sherry. Once he got to his destination, he climbed up Sherry's legs and then towards her arm.

"Hey, what are you doing? Come back." Yuuka tried to peel Joltik away, but the Joltik held on close to Sherry, so close that Yuuka couldn't pry him away. The sight of a tiny little spider hugging Sherry's arm was absolutely adorable.

"I think he took a liking to you." Yuuka snickered. "You wanna catch that?"

Sherry gave her arm a few test shakes before coming to the conclusion that the Joltik wasn't going anywhere. She wasn't the biggest fan of bugs, seeing as they were widely used as BOWs, but this one was cute. Plus, it was listed as an electric type, and that made Sherry curious. How could something so tiny pack a punch like an electric shock? Either way, it was a valuable asset and a welcome partner.

                  "Catch it? Sure thing."

The agent reached into her pouch for a spare Pokeball and held it up to the Joltik. While she figured she could have let it follow them along, catching a Pokemon in a ball allowed it to be registered to the trainer. Plus, moves, gender, and nature could be discerned as well when caught.

"What do you say little guy? Want to come along with me?" Sherry asked.

"Skree skree?" Joltik tapped the Pokeball, which was bigger than the Joltik itself, with curious screeches.

"You can really get stronger if you come with us." Yuuka said to the little Joltik. The Joltik thought about this. He wanted to get stronger... And bigger. If he was to do so, he needed a trainer's help.

"Skree!" Joltik screeched happily as he admitted himself to the Pokeball.

                    Gotcha! Wild Joltik was caught!
Would you like to give nickname to this Joltik?

That was easy, Sherry thought with a grin. As long as she kept up on her word and treated her Pokemon with respect, catching rates would skyrocket. Still, there were the proud types that wouldn't go down without a fight, like Claire, so it was best to stay on one's toes. The agent felt the Pokeball fill with weight and released her hold on the device after it finished rumbling. She released her Joltik and placed it on her shoulder where she could give it an affectionate rub.

"Let's see... What should your nickname be?" Sherry pondered on this for some time before a spark of realization hit her. "I got it! You're a bug Pokemon, and a male, no less. I'm going to call you Gregor."

Oh, Sherry thought she was clever on that one.

"Who's the itsy bitsy spider? Who's the itsy bitsy spider?" Yuuka rubbed Gregor's soft back, to which Gregor adorably screeched with joy. "Okay... let's get out of here before we spend too much time cuddling this little cute one."

"Aw, welcome party's over," Sherry whined as she gave Gregor a few more pats on the back. "We should keep moving."

An electric type Pokemon was a nice addition to the team, and given the paralyzing nature of those types, attacking large and fast Pokemon would be a little easier. In fact, Sherry already had ideas for tandem moves that Mac or Claire could capitalize on. Slowing a target down allowed for more powerful moves to be used, and when more powerful moves were used, the fight ended quicker. Sherry would have to test her little Joltik in combat before she made any long-term plans, however.

"Claire, Gregor is our friend, not food," Sherry scolded as the Taillow sulked on her trainer's other shoulder.

Gregor aspired to remain out of Claire's sight for the time being, and that resulted in the Joltik crawling over Sherry's body to get to a hidden position. In the end, Gregor took a position in an empty front pocket where he felt comfortable to poke his little head out.

"Well, looks like that's Captain Briney's hut in the distance," Sherry said as she pointed to the south.

"Yup, there he is." Yuuka pointed at the old man who was tending to his garden. His Wingull, perched on top of a wooden post, cried loudly at the arrival of Yuuka and Sherry. Captain Briney, standing upright to see what the commotion is about, waved at Sherry and Yuuka. "Let's go give him the good news."

Sherry stepped up onto Briney's open wooden porch and advanced upon the old man with a smile. He seemed happy to see the two young women again instead of amazed that they were still alive. Perhaps he had an inkling that the two would succeed. Somehow, a lot of seniors had premonitions.

"Captain Briney? We've got your flag back from Rustboro." Sherry folded her arms and chuckled. "Those Team Anarchy grunts won't be stealing from you again."

"You cannot imagine how important this is for Peeko and I." Captain Briney held the flag on his hands. "Peeko, they did it! They got our flags back!"

"Peeyo!" Peeko the Wingull shrilled with joy as she flew around the cottage.

"So... Can you take us to Dewford?" Yuuka asked.

"Dewford?" Captain Briney's mouth widened. "For you two, I'll go out to sea any day! I just need a few hours to prepare, but I promise, we'll leave for Dewford by 8. If you're lucky and the sea is calm, you could reach Dewford by midnight."
