Byakuren looked over her shoulder and at the door. She furrowed her brow, neither comfortable with the new voice nor frightened. It wasn't the police, but it wasn't a threat either. Perhaps the feminine voice had something to say, and if so, then by all means Byakuren would let her speak.

"I'm just a citizen who is tired of dealing with this underground war for alcohol and power" the oni spoke looking at the detective with serious eyes

It Was a High risk, but she had to trust her instincts "there were three people who Came in before you, two lackey looking guys and a redhead woman that lead them. There was a conmotion and they came out with heavy stuff that surely was from this room. They knew what they were searching for and acted quickly leaving in a car. Byakuren took the mysterious woman's answer at face value and could not detect a trace of wrongdoing. With a small wave of her hand, the detective gestured for her to come into the room with Komachi taking up the initiative of questioning. By all means, having a citizen stand up to their 'citizen soldiers' and confide in the law was something one rarely saw these days. Byakuren wasn't going to complain, although she would really enjoy the blonde's name for her records. She stood aside for Komachi and the blonde and placed her hands on her hips.

More witnesses meant more viewpoints, and more viewpoints meant more opportunities.

"A mafia organization wouldn't give themselves away so easily unless they were sending a message," Byakuren said under her breath. "And deliberately trying to incite fear within the populace."

"I can asure you that the mafia group may be from the vampire devil, the redhead had similar features to one of her close subordinates. What they were searching for might have been either money debts or alcohol stashes" Yuugi spoke looking at the possible hiding places for the stash

Byakuren suppressed the urge to drink from her flask, instead choosing to keep it tucked away. "I would have supported their efforts against prohibition, I won't lie. But when they hurt innocent people in the process, that's where the line is crossed."

Byakuren knew that the people were pissed off. A drink could buy loyalty, safety, silence, and much more. With fear on the mafia's side... Wait...

For what I know, she knew this girl and had to kill her as a message that is either to you guys of the law to show who leads this city or us the civilians to control us by fear."

"I know about how the mafia ones deal with both the law and the civilians, many cops are corrupt because they enjoy what they receive for having the blind eye and ears or are blackmailed with the life of a loved one. I donīt trust the law of this city as it is like a rotten tree"

The oni then had a smirk "Just by looking at you I can know you arenīt a corrupt cop who truly works for justice, but donīt follow the rules to the line either to be obvious, donīt bother hiding that flask, I can smell it from almost a kilometer" she said gesturing the drink the detective had

Byakuren hesitated when the oni fingered her with the flask. Of course, she thought to herself. Onis were infamous drinkers who could take as many drinks back as they could throw their muscle forward. Fists only get you so far in this world, but right now, a stiff fist was just what the prohibition era needed. Figuring she was caught anyway, the detective brought out her flask of whiskey and held it to her chest.

"Hmph. Meiling and Remilia, you say?" Byakuren shook her head. "Now, Remilia is in charge of the Scarlet Devil Mafia, correct? If you're right, we have the first name of one of her associates."

With a smile, the detective held out her drinking flask to the oni as a gesture of goodwill.

"I don't suppose you'll want a drink? Wildcat brew. Nothing special, but it's better than nothing." Byakuren's expression became gentle and kind once again. "Besides, I wager you have first-hand experience with the law of this city, other than this little encounter."

Yuugi nodded to what the detective spoke "Thatīs right, the scarlet mafiaīs interns arenīt as secretive as some may think, they sometimes make a show of their jobs. That vampire is likes attention"

As the detective offered the oni some drink, she declined calmly "Its ok, I havenīt drink any alcoholic beverage in a long time. You may think that is imposible for us oni, but I thought about it and decided to move on. I donīt aprove this prohibition of drinks, some people enjoy it without hurting anyone" she said with a smile

"Going back on track, I know some people suffered because of it, and since I see you have one from the Wildcat, I can trust you that knowledge of more places where people gather for a good drink, right?" Yuugi spoke

Byakuren recalled her drinking flask and shrugged before taking a small sip for herself. She could hear some activity advancing upon the apartment, probably a squad car with the men she asked for. It would be for the best that she put the flask away for now, at least until it was safe again to indulge. The detective winced at the potency of the brew and wiped her mouth before pocketing her flask.

"If you're suggesting that you could be of assistance, I, we," she said, looking to Komachi, "would very much appreciate the show of effort. Yes, I know a few speakeasies and bars. Most of the force, I believe, doesn't molest the business during cocktail hours. It's a nice gesture for us both, even if we glare at each other over the top of our mugs." Byakuren tugged at her gloves and yawned. She was getting tired, and the work had only just begun. "Perhaps this mafia has dealings with some of the bars we know about. If you feel like doing Gensoka City a favor, please, see what you can find in the rumor mill."

The detective turned back to the body and took a knee near it.

"Forgive me if I'm being... Stereotypical, but I believe your skills and knowledge could help us both." Byakuren yawned again. "Hah... Could I trouble you for your name, miss...?"

Hearing that a car was parking close to the building, Yuugi guessed it was the detectiveīs companions and had the thought that maybe one of them could be of her old squad ("Those excuses of men.. sold themselves for beers and weapons") she shivered at how someone could change so easily in a matter of seconds

The name is Yuugi and sure I will help you detective, but I only have one condition, I will trust only you and no other person, maybe your companion over there as she looks like your assistant. This city has masked goons all over the place be it cops or government too" she said with a serious face

"Miss Onozuka can speak for herself," Byakuren said, choosing not to answer for the red-haired woman. "I am not easily bought, even when tempted with my... Well, let's just say I have exquisite tastes."

Byakuren, indeed, had a few vices, but they were small compared to her love of the drink. No-one needed to know of her activities in the dead of night, only her honeyed tongue. As the detective smiled, she could hear the front door to the apartment complex open up. The sounds of boots scraping against wood and trudging along the rugs reverberated up to the small room. The men were timely, and they were much appreciated to help secure the area until the late Sally could be taken care of. Byakuren still didn't have a name, but she was hanging onto Greenleaf, Verdantwing, and Leafwing as potential options.

"You can trust me, Yuugi. Now, if you don't mind, I've a scene to unravel," Byakuren said as she returned her attention to Sally's body once again.
