    Near Route 207

"That's a mouthful of a name." Koishi said. "Have you ever thought about something like Dave, or Bob?"

Sometimes when you're driving down a road, a bug hits your windshield. It's ugly and unpleasant, but you just activate the wipers / cleaning fluid and it's gone in a few seconds. It's just part of driving down the road. You don't dwell on it, because that'd be silly. Bugs aren't worth the time.

You just discard their guts and keep on driving.

John had a name, but he only gave it out to close friends, and he had very, very few. Not even Renamon knew his actual name. This entire time, she had been addressing him simply as "Chief."

"Some people call me 'Master Chief', or 'Chief'.", John said to Koishi as they continued to walk.

"But that's a title. I'll call you Sierra. That sounds more like a name." Koishi said.

John was never called "Sierra" before, but he found it to be acceptable. "Sierra" was the "S" in his Spartan Designation Number, S-117, and meant "Spartan." He had been called "Spartan" many times, and this new name was just another way of saying it.

"That's acceptable.", John calmly said to Koishi as they entered the city.

Team Anarchy's hideout in Rustboro wasn't even subtle. A dark gray shack made out of concrete, stuck in the alleyway between two skyscrapers, was desecrated with graffiti and garbage cans. Passerbys avoided the little alleyway, for the alley smelled foul and pungent. In front of the shack stood a large man with a tattoo of some sort of shark.

"Wow." Yuuka gaped at the stupidity of Team Anarchy. "I have no words."

"Yeah. I can't believe they would just plaster their logo in front of a building. That's not even subtle." Kappa sighed in agreeance.

"I... idiots." Lilac muttered, which Yuuka found cute. She cuddled the little brown fox, and Lilac squealed happily.

"Right, so the flag, the Slakoth, and any other things they stole must be in that building." Yuuka said as she looked at Claire who joined Yuuka in front of the alleyway. "Ready?"

Sherry readjusted her pack and huffed in disapproval. The thug standing guard in from to the shack was the typical bouncer/muscleman, and unless he was as dense as a J'avo that lost its head, this would be a tough nut to crack. She looked past him and at the spray painted symbol on the concrete wall with disdain. Figures that a bunch of two-bit criminals wouldn't hide their base of operations very well.

But then again, symbols of fear kept the masses in line. This was probably why most citizens didn't mention this part of town. Well, Sherry Birkin couldn't give a damn if the walls were plastered with the logo of Umbrella. She had a job to do, and she was going to see it through.

Seeing as Claire the Taillow wouldn't be of much use in confined spaces, Sherry reclaimed the bird and released Mac (the Machop) to provide muscle. As the little fighter stood at the ready, Sherry stood behind near Yuuka.

              "Ready. You have a plan?"

"Well, in this world, Pokemon battles are everything. What we do is: demand entry by Pokemon battle. Our Pokemon should be strong enough to take on a local gang." Yuuka articulated. A simple, primitive plan, but all the more effective.

Sherry couldn't help but hear Jake's suggestion in her head. Why don't we just waste 'em, he said. It seemed like an easy answer to a complicated problem, and Sherry found herself agreeing with the merc. However, she didn't want to give herself away as some kind of cold-blooded agent, which she was, somewhat. If battling was the answer, then it would have to do.

She shrugged and advanced on the thug in the alley, gesturing her eager fighter forward. When the distance was good, she stopped and folded her arms.

"Hey you!" she shouted, trying her best not to appear weak. "We challenge you to a Pokemon battle! We win, we get in there."

Grunch, nicknamed The Punch by the members of Team Anarchy, was guarding the door to the Team Anarchy base in Rustboro City when he heard a sharp shout.

"Hey, you! We challenge you to a Pokemon battle!"

Grunch raised his eyebrows. He saw two women demanding entry. One of them wore an oversized white shirt and beige pants that stopped at her shins. The other woman was wearing a red hat, white sleeveless, and a red low-rise pants. They both looked like they popped out of a fashion magazine-

No no no, focus, Grunch. I don't care how sexy these women look like, they were demanding entry to the hideout and have to be stopped.

"Alright, then." Grunch nodded. Business as usual, he thought as he sent out his Pokemons: Poochyena the black hyena puppy and Grimer the purple autonomous sludge.

"That... Worked." Yuuka also raised an eyebrow at how such ridiculous plan worked, sending the now-healthy Fraxinella.

                    Poochyena Lv: 9
                    Grimer Lv: 9

A puppy and a pile of toxic-looking sludge. Sherry doubted she would ever be let down in this world when it came to the designs of Pokemon. She shook her head and rubbed her chin as she thought up a battle plan.

Given that Mac had to get in close to do his work, he would be able to handle his own in a fair fight. The bug-type that Yuuka was using looked to be a lightweight, one who crumbled from a good strike. But Sherry put into account the intimidating look of the bug and those fire emissions, which led her to believe that the bug would be good support, provided it remained unmolested. With a snap of her fingers, Sherry got it figured out.

"Alright Mac, I need you to be aggressive here," Sherry explained. "You've got a partner this time around, so do all you can to protect her. Now get in there and engage those hostiles!"

Mac, a little flabbergasted at the gusto of his trainer, shrugged before leaping into the fray. He set his sights on the Poochyena first. Dropping down to a crouch, he swept his leg over the ground to collide with the dark-type's legs, a low kick.

"Follow up, Fraxie. Ember." Yuuka ordered.

"Don't call me Fraxie!" Fraxinella the Larvesta grumbled, but obeyed, shooting bursts of flame around Machop and Poochyena, forming some sort of an arena for the two. Fraxinella, a calculative one, realized that the partner Machop can definitely take on the Poochyena, but the opponent Grimer could give Machop a bad time, and therefore formed a wall of flame that prevented Grimer from approaching.

Mac regarded the ring of fire as a challenge, and so did Sherry. They thought of it as a sumo ring, and whoever got pushed back far enough would get burned. It would keep the Grimer away, but Mac wouldn't be able to assist the bug without disengaging combat and leaping out of the ring. Better to take the blows as they came, though.

"Mac, focus your strength into pushing that pooch into the ring. Soften it up first; don't rely on brute force just yet," Sherry ordered.

Mac obliged and began to pepper the Poochyena with quick jabs to the side, poking it into a submissive position.

After walking for a few minutes, John and Koishi made their way into the city and began to walk towards Renamon. John wasn't expecting to gain a new companion out of this strange encounter, but it was just as well. She had the means to send John home, and not only that, she would also be able to aid them in their travels.

Kanto Region - Somewhere on Route 3 - Early Morning

Noises echoing in even the smallest crannies of my mind, endlessly, without any clue of what exactly happens. Trying to focus myself on those sounds didn't help as no matter how strong I try, I can't even distinguish a syllab from those obsessing, continuous whispers. As time flew, they finally became so loud that, unable to stand anymore, even my consciousness was sent into some faraway limbo, dragging me into a second eternity, as quiet as the first one was noisy.

An undetermined amount of time later, my consciousness was like pulled off its lethargic state, apparently with the only purpose of letting me feeling a very sharp and hard thing scratching my cheek, my shoulder, and all the way through my elbow.
Too much tired and not confident enough to open my eyes, but still enough to hear, as that's at this very same moment a structured, almost understandable voice came up to my eardrum...

                              "Sir ? Sir ! You finally awoke ! "

Alfred opened his eyes and noticed that he was laying on the floor, in a very rocky place, small gravels and sand all over his face. Looking up the first thing that he seen was a tall, beardy man wearing hiking clothes, showing a strangely welcoming smile.

"You just can't stay like that ! Let me help you !"

The man tended a water bottle to Alfred, who drank it in a single gulp, forgetting any notion of etiquette in favor of the satisfaction of his most natural needs. A half-bottle later the scientist's mind began to work properly again, and basic survival let place to more existential questions :

                              "Where are we ?"

"You are on the Route 3"

                              "Routes are not numbered"

                              "So they are."

"In which State are we ?"

Exasperated but still smily, the Hiker tended a folded map to the bewildered traveller, and after five minutes reading it, Alfred asked :

"Is it possible to arrive here before night ? "
"Sure it is, but other trainers might delay you a bit"
                              "Trainers ?"
"You don't even know either what nor who they are ? You're definitely not from here. Don't mind if I explain you the whole thing ? You sure do have a lot to know before venturing through the whole region..."
