I've actually thought up a good fix for that.
The Characters can't be the only incarnations in the world. I'm sure there's 2 of the same person running around. Of course, that doesn't mean that you should be a character that someone is playing as. Use your common sense.
If anyone has a problem with this theorey, please say so.

I'm thinking of introducing a very, very powerful creature, awakened as a result of the surge of Thermal Energy from Red Eye, and the cause of these thermal storms. It is known as the Over-G.

This thing is pretty much a leech, but for planets. If it grows large enough, it will burrow into the Earth's core, freeze it, absorbing the core's energy into itself, and pretty much render the Earth a giant ball of ice.

Sometimes when you're driving down a road, a bug hits your windshield. It's ugly and unpleasant, but you just activate the wipers / cleaning fluid and it's gone in a few seconds. It's just part of driving down the road. You don't dwell on it, because that'd be silly. Bugs aren't worth the time.
You just discard their guts and keep on driving.
