I watched as he walked off. It's a shame he has to deal with all this. I just hope he knows he's not alone.

I returned to the ice cream parlor to see an unsightly scene.

"Noooooooo, I've been gone for too long! It melted!!!"

I quickly ordered another one and payed for the other one.

"I'm sorry. Please excuse my absence."

I walked out with my ice cream. Then I saw Six about.

"Oh, hello there Six! I see you're doing fine!"

"A raid? That's fun. Let's start, now." Daiyousei giggled, and suddenly started firing her K3 with one hand and her Barratta on another. How does a fairy have this kind of strength, not even flinching from the heavy recoil these guns make?

"Earlier you said to be careful. What is there to be careful of?", John asked.

How can she withstand the recoil? Oh well. One of the many mysteries of the world.

"Where do you think the leader will be?"

I was shooting every alien with complete accuracy.

Suddenly, I felt a chill... As if someone I knew was nearby...

            Vivec's Shrine - London East - England

Slowly but steadily, he succeeded to rebuild a daily routine and find a place in the british microcosm. Of course, everything was not perfect : his religion is often misunderstood by his believers, and Vivec had to accept many offensing choices in order to gather a sufficient number of visitors to the shrine.
Believers transformed the shrine main room into an incredible mix between a buddhist temple and an orthodoxic church because they tought that "it was fitting well" ? He accepted it.
The same people tought that it would be nice to sing the 36 lessons (Sacred texts wrote down by Vivec himself) as if they was gospel ? Vivec accepted it again.
As impossible as it could seem, This basterd mix of religions gathered a relatively small but very devoted community that donates a sufficent amount of money to allow it to live decently.

Another day started for Vivec, who easily woke up after a short night. Relearning daily needs after several centuries of godly life is more challenging than leading a 80 years wars or writing down hundreds of religious texts for him now. Although he could easily skip those useless moments, he tought that practicing them could help him to integrate himself. He took two entire minutes to stare at the gray sky and slowly went downstairs for breakfasting. The first room that he saw downstairs is the living room where the shrine is settled. As everyday since he founded his new religion, Vivec longly sighed in front of this ludicrous shrine and after focused to go to the kitchen, eating whatever he can while watching the news.

Sociology books taught Vivec that journalists weren't objective at all in his new homeland even before Characters were released in, and now they are that's even worse.
Most of them were idolizing characters and their affiliated factions, and the staying minority was "evilifiying them", calling them deliberately "the Earth's cancer". In both cases those reactions were triggered by outlaw or government-hired Characters toying with the world's safety.
Like everyday since he discovered modern medias, Vivec smiled and tought : "At least, they'll never involve me in their child whims, and that's better like this."

The second half of Vivec's day is shared between meditation, tasteless ceremonials and reading of classic books wrote through ages by various Earth civilizations.

The routine cycles everyday , and Vivec becoming slightly more aware of our world and "human"everyday, taking a full advantage of the peace that e enjoys compared to other characters...

              Vivec's Shrine - London East - England

The general mayhem caused by the presumed
bioterrorist attack in London allowed Vivec to close the shrine.
He took cereals and an apple (that were immediatly on his reach) and sat in front of the TV.

"Those events seems to be uninvited to my ideal. It equally seems than i'm no more able to stop the hostilities by any way. If I stay, I could die and then become nobody, or I can leave and then I'll never be able to become somebody. Embarassing...
The followers of my faith are useless, and well, I haven't annihilated armies for 2000 years.
Their guards and healers won't make me move until I'll leave the shrine by myself. I have to stay and observe.

"I can see that you are a super soldier." The wolf-woman commented. "But General Vladimir Sanguinos, the man in charge of your friend's dungeon, is infamous for inflicting torture beyond imagination. He is also known to be an excelling swordsman. It'll take an army and a half to bring him down and rescue your friend."
"Yeah, Mr. Vlady is scary." Neliel nodded.

"Don't shoot!" It was Submos, keeping watch over the siege position of the Youkai Mountain. "Or I'll retaliate!"

Hearing about his ability to torture made him sick as the imagined Ran in the worst situation possible.
This of course only served to strengthen his resolve. If he was to fight someone powerful enough to take an army and a half, just to save Ran, then he would gladly do it.

"I'm not just a super soldier. I'm a Spartan-II super soldier. I am the second of all the other Spartans to achieve Hyper-lethal Vector status. If it takes an army and a half to kill him, then I'll come with the ferocity and resolve of two armies. I'm not going to let anyone be tortured by him, not while I'm still breathing.", John said in a solemn tone.

John then looked at Renamon and spoke.

"Renamon, this is one time where I need you to do as I say. Once I'm done, this place is going to be hell. I need you to take Nera, and these two Nucleoids back to the Extractor. I've already cleared the area, so it's mostly safe now. As soon as you get there, RUN. I'm going to send Ran through the portal and back to Gensokyo. Once she's gone, I'm going to activate one of the weapon system batteries and blast the Extractor. It probably won't destroy it, but it will damage it. It will buy us more time. It will destroy the portal, removing my chance to go home the easy way, but I have an ace up my sleeve, but I can only use it alone. That's why I need you to leave and go back to the shrine. I'll be back soon, just watch the sky for me. You'll know me when you see me. Please do as I say. This is one time when you can't be stubborn. You have to do it.", John said to Renamon.

He then left for the elevator, pressed the button, and descended to the prison sector.

As he exited the elevator, he prepped all of his weapons, pinned a waypoint to Ran's position, and walked deeper into the prison sector.

                              Prison Sector - The Consumer

John began to silently sneak through the Prison Sector, careful not to raise the alarm.

He knew that if he did, then the whole ship could come down not only him, but also Renamon and Nera as well. He needed to find Ran. When he made the promise to Kanako that he would keep everyone safe, he didn't take Ran, or anyone other than his friends into account, but he was still going to save her. He made a vow to protect Earth and all of her colonies. By extension, that meant humanity. Ran may not have been human, but she was a citizen of Earth. Not only that, John considered Youkai humans and treated them as such.

John snuck through the first corridor. In the hall, he saw a guard sleeping.

(Perfect.), John thought to himself as he quietly walked over to the sleeping Nucleoid.

John pulled out his Carbon-Steel Alloy Combat Knife and plunged it into the Nucleoid's neck. The blade planted itself into the vocal chords of the guard and silenced it. John then pulled out his second Combat Knife and jammed it into the guard's head, killing it instantly. John removed the knives and quietly hid the body in a dark supply closet. He stole the guard's uniform and disguised himself as a member of the guards. Even then, he was still cautious as to not be seen by the actual staff.

Once he was done, he continued down the prison halls, careful not to attract the attention of the guards looking through a nearby window. John laid down and quietly slid on his shields. Luckily for him, his shields remove all friction, which meant that he could slide indefinitely and make absolutely no sound. He continued down the hall and came across a guard in the next hallway. The guard's back was turned, allowing John to quietly assassinate him from behind. John took his knife and stabbed the side of the guard's head, killing it silently. John took the body and hid it in one of the guardposts, underneath one of the beds.

He eventually came to the cell blocks. The room was enormous, large enough to store millions of prisoners. The place was relatively empty, probably because everyone from the last world had been assimilated. John walked past the cells and stuck to the shadows. If he was lucky, he could get by without drawing any attention to himself.

John looked at one of the cells and noticed something right away. The cell doors needed a key card to open.

                              (Damn it.)

John walked until he saw a group of guards playing some kind of boardgame in one of the guard stations. John didn't know what game it was, but it probably was an alien one. John walked in and closed the door behind him.

"Hey, who are you?", one of them asked as soon as he closed the door.

"I think he's one of the new assimilated grunts.", the second one said as he rolled the dice.

"No, he would look identical to them if that was the case.", the biggest guard said as he turned his face away from his cards, giving the first guard an opportunity to look at them.

"Hey, why are you locking the door?", the fourth one asked John...

All of a sudden, John forced himself into Spartan Time and slaughtered all of the guards in the station with his Combat Knives.
Once his bloody work was done, John took all of their key cards and put them away for safe keeping.
He even went so far as to open up his undersuit and hide a couple in there as well.

John exited the guard station and continued to the waypoint. He needed to find Ran. He tried not to think up of tortures that could be happening to her but he couldn't help it. It was something that commonly happened to humans that were captured by the covenant, especially if it involved Covenant Brutes. Brutes were notorious for their strength and cruelty. John's mind flashed to images of Ran getting tortured with Brute methods.

One involved pulling off the victim's fingers and toes, all the way to their legs and arms, then burning the wounds closed, to prevent blood loss. The next was driving spikes through the heels of the victim's feet, then forcing them to walk. The third one was the worst. The victim would slowly have pieces removed from their body, then forced to eat them. In the end, they would literally eat themselves alive.

If the one in charge could create tortures that were beyond imagination, then what was happening to Ran? Was it worse than the ones he could think of?

(Don't worry Ran, I'll be there as soon as possible. I won't let them do this to you.), john thought to himself as he sped up his sneaking pace without sacrificing his silence.

John eventually got to the prison cell and looked inside.

"Ran?", John whispered to the figure in the cell.
