"Okay." Rumia pointed at John. "First of all, I need you to get closer to me."
John did as he was told and got closer, ready for the training to begin.
"So, what do you plan on doing first?", John asked.

"No, no, no, closer." Rumia motioned John to come closer. "Like, walk towards me until your helmet touches my head.."
"Oh god, not that, Rumia, you'll turn him insane!" Yukari tried to stop Rumia.
"If he can't withstand this, then he does not have enough strength to conquer darkness." Rumia glared at Yukari.
"Fine." Yukari stepped back.
"No, no, no, closer." Rumia motioned John to come closer. "Like, walk towards me until your helmet touches my head.."

(Well, if I'm strong enough to survive the augmentation process, then I should be strong enough to survive this.), John thought to himself.
John did as he was told, risking his sanity.
John walked right up to Rumia and leaned far down, to touch his head against hers,steeling himself for whatever might happen.

As soon as John's helmet touched Rumia's, a cloud of darkness enveloped them, impenetrable from both inside and out. The only light source inside the dark sphere was the glowing red eyes of Rumia.
"Share in my torment." Rumia's voice echoed inside and out of John as the dark cloud started to impale John's armor. Darkness not being a physical object did not gore John, but the pain was inevitable.
Honolulu, Hawaii
"Ah, Yuyuko-sama." Youmu bowed to Yuyuko. "You do not have to tell me, I already know."
As soon as John's helmet touched Rumia's, a cloud of darkness enveloped them, impenetrable from both inside and out. The only light source inside the dark sphere was the glowing red eyes of Rumia.

The pain was unbearable, but John recalled what he had to go through during the augmentation process.
(Come on John! You've survived unimaginable pain! You've felt as if your bones were breaking, as if their marrows were made of glass and were being shattered. You've felt as if your veins had been injected with napalm as well as the feeling of them being torn out of your skin. You've felt as if your entire body was on fire and that plated glass was being shattered and being worked in your body. You've even had the pain of feeling as if fire was burning along the nerves on your spine. This is nothing compared to what you've had to deal with!)
"This is nothing!", John shouted to himself as he began to tolerate the pain more easily.

Rumia's dark cloud wasn't only affecting John through physical pain. It was attacking John's mental capacity: poking through John's worst nightmares: brinks of death he has faced, innocent beings he had to massacre, and, worst of all, him not being able to save Cortana.

"I don´t know.. that being´s aura was full of madness and destruction.. by Arceus what has he done in the past?" the jackal said looking at the horizon
"There are things we don´t know how to handle, just try to avoid that feeling, it will pass with time Nera" The fox calmed the jackal putting her paw on her mate´s.
